Sorry - it has become far too annoying to use now. Birthday updates? Please. Can I delete my account here? I'm going over to the Ace board www.genjitsu.co.uk/acekarateforum/index.php . At least I can navigate it. Ta.

Hi Elmar,
Sorry you are going but that's your choice.
You could help me with a bit more feedback on what the specific problems are however. As a user I get no audio ads or other pop ups, (the birthday updates were always there on the old version BTW). Apart from the "comic book" avatars, which I'll admit are a bit annoying (but easily fixed), and the fact that a couple of the buttons have changed location nothing is really different to the old version (than I can see).
We don't need to delete you account for you to go elsewhere or not visit here anymore (just don't do it :-)) but if you'd like me to do so then please confirm. Did you want your content to date removed also or just your ability to log on?

A bit dramatic, just don't visit. Why the big statement? Personnally I will miss your comments so thanks for your input.
The ads are annoying, especially after the wife has been using it and I get a loads of ads for things I am not interested in. There is no such things as a free site the annoying ads are the price we pay for the "free site" You can go add free then you pay.
I set up a number of ads free sites with domain names only £30 a year then as the traffic increases you have to pay for more bandwith. So I closed most down.
I am not prepared to sort through the spam, the aggresive armchair warriors, so I ten to take my hat off to those who bother.
So thank you to them and I hope you continue to drop in.

You could help me with a bit more feedback on what the specific problems are however. .. It's mainly the inability to get right to the new posts after a simple logon. The old way was simply to do a single click on "posts since your last visit", and there you were. Now it's a much more manually intensive method, scrolling through the forum titles, looking for the "new" marker, opening that forum, looking at the threads, deciding whether to enter it or not, then backing out, and wash, rinse, repeat. What used to be one click is now about 6 - 10 (to get through the entire forum, if it's been active). As for the pop-ups, neither does the Ace forum. It's simply the "new" forum software is much worse than the old interface, even if it claims to be "more secure". I've enjoyed the posts here, and mine can of course stay (the way-back machine makes any other thought silly). ACE's forum is pretty quiet at the moment (and it is also a bit slow), but it is the "old" interface, so getting to what I want to read is much easier. I an pop on and be off in seconds if nothing is there. - Elmar

Hi Elmar,
Ok, thanks for getting back. Have you tried the "Participated" button, (top right) to see if that gives you what you want?
Yes, I don't think the new format is as friendly as the old one but hey ho, the world moves on, and I've found ways to use it much as before. I think all forums are generally slow at present, or at least all the ones I'm on (don't know if that's cause and effect ;-)).

"participated" gives you a quick popup of threads you've already been on, but it does not give you threads that have updated elsewhere since your last visit. At any rate, if you have any pull on those who design the software, ask for a button that does what the old button did. It should be possible ...

one of the issues is that the system is changing rapidly and we will see most forums change at the whim of the host sites set up. Even sites like Aces will be forced to change soon. Its simply a matter of finding out if the interaction with others is worth your "wash, rinse, repeat". I kind of always did it the old way of scroll through, see what I wanted to look at and open...so that is not an issue with me. And the pop ups, price of doing business I guess, I just ignore them.
My biggest compliment, as a forum mod, is that we get much less spam with this new site set up...not totally gone, but less!

Elmar go to the home page scroll to the bottom, click on "recent threads" and will list them as before.
