I am not usually a one for boastful pronouncements or self-agrandisment but I think I deserve this one . Last weekend myself and three students made the long trip down to Birmingham for their dan grade testing. I am proud to say that all three passed; two to ni-dan and one to sho-dan. I was given very flattering feedback on the standard of all three students and I have to say they shone above other students on the day. I am doubly proud of the fact that the two nidans are my brother in law and my grandson. I am one happy instructor. Sorry to bore you all with this, as you were.

Let me be the first to congratulate on your success,as well as going to Birmingham and finding a motorway that is still open after 9pm.
Enjoy the good bits, well done.

Thanks for that Bert, you are right about the motorway , 50 mph restrictions on miles of it.

fantastic. I have to say that even at my ripe age in Karate dont consider myself to be an instructor to any black belts as of yet. I teach many in seniors classes but have never produced one on my own. I think of all the black belts in class as belonging to my instructor or others. I had a very tallented Ikkyu that left to go into kick boxing, i really thought she would be my first Shodan!
Be a bit boastful of this feat! not all of us have had this experience yet.

Congrats Jim. I am going to promote my Dai Sempai to Nidan, another senior student to Shodan & another to brown belt (sankyu). I have been doing this for over 40 years but I only have 3 black belts so this week end is big.

it is a rare old feeling Tom , savour it. I have been lucky enough to promote a couple of other students in the past but they quit through work or studies.

Thanks Jim! & James - after all this time, not having a black belt yet means you don't run a belt factory. You have standards & you maintain them. It took me 36 years to get my first shodan.

Well done to anyone who has had students go off to grade, I have a couple of 1st Kyu's that are getting ready for next year and a son who is training for Nidan. It is a test of our teaching but also great if they pass with flying colours!
