In the book Best Karate 5, there is NO Kiai on the Tate Uraken. But the video on YouTube with Osaka Sensei shows a Kiai. As our club teaches Kata the JKA way as shown in Nakayama Sensei's Best Karate books, there is confusion in the dojo ! Does anyone know how the JKA currently performs Kata ?

Hi Andy
Hope all are well at Wirral SKC. Our club is affiliated to JKAWF and we continue to Kiai at Kosa Dachi/Uraken Uchi and Hiza Ate. One of the "problems" with our Karate if you follow the JKA way of performing Kata is they have changed somewhat slightly to their original format. At our club we are being advised of changes even up to the beginning of this year. That aside a lot of previously written works have anomalies that have not been identified at the proof reading stage and have been printed with errors.
Best Regards Allan

SKIF update - the kiai is very much there - and I believe, from the flow of the kata, it is very relevant! ______________ More sweat in training, less blood in battle

We have done a Kiai at the Tate Uraken for years and it is the normal way of performing Heian Yondan. Then yesterday morning I look in the book and lo and behold - NO Kiai ! It's the same for Heian Godan in the same book. ONE Kiai !

Is it in the Japanese version of the same books? And, if not, it is probably just a editing mistake.
