can also recommend " Angry white pyjamas" by Robert Twigger. Having done quite a bit of Aikido I can really relate to this.

although not a shotokan book but a book written by a really nice bloke and kaicho of Ashihara karate International:Hoosain Narker. He traveled (some years ago)to the usa, canada and some other countries for 6 months with a backpack,a dogi ,his laptop and little money (you could follow his journey on the net at the time)and wrote a book about it.He stayed with people he had met on the www(practitioners from different styles of karate)as he had a low budget.A good read and you can order it via amazon or you'll more info on this page: www.karateodyssey.com/@steve:I really liked Dave Hazard's book:very honest and touching.Great stuff!

First time i ever saw Gary Spiers - he took a loaded revolver out of his Jacket and placed it on the table - In a community centre in Runcorn Cheshire circa 70's - the man was an animal I swear!
Anyone working the doors in the NW England in the 70's and 80's knew of Gary Spiers - Some very interesting articles about him in old FAI mags! He often came to our local Goju Club (Colin Bond's) and frightened the bejazooz outa everyone! Was as mad as a hatter

Was as mad as a hatter from what I've read in the book it's someone you wanted on your side when the sh*t hits the fan (I wouldn't have loved to be on the other side).... here's an interview conducted by his good friend Terry O'Neill from the FAI mag:(you'll find this part in the bookk aforementioned too) www.cqbservices.com/?page_id=38

Fantastic IMHO! Having read the book Dave Hazard comes across at best as a bully and at worst as someone who borders on being a violent sociopath. Anyone who gets out of his car and then punches (or kicks, I can't remember) through the window of another car in a road rage attack has got VERY serious anger management issues and possible mental health issues. Stalking the streets looking for someone to beat the shit out of becasue they have touched your girlfriend bum is also not the behaviour of a normal rational person. The book is full of other such incidents, I don't think it does him or karate any favours.
