Who - out of everyone you have trained with has MOST (really meaning klifetime impression) impacted, positively influenced you.
mine would be:
John Tattum - my original Instructor - he was already a very accomplished swimming Instructor so knew how to teach - I owe him so much.
Steve Cattle - i could and am doing 'write a book about it'
Dave Hazard - i could and am doing 'write a book about it'
my Students - at risk of sounding corny - this is really the truth - they give you so much!
what's yours......

Without sounding as if I'm looking for Brownie Points I've got to say my current instructor Steve Hyland, I have know him for over 23 years and he still amazes me with his knowlege of Shotokan Karate and his application of it. Also I can honestly say that when he's conducted courses at my club he has never repeated himself, which is a unbelievable feat in its self . So thanks Steve for passing on your knowlege to us all

Bill Davidson a 1st kyu Scotsman who trained under Shirai, gave me my first taste of true shotokan karate. Gary Johnson was the head of the JKABC who took me on as a student & supported my running a dojo when technically I had no right to do so. I trained for free at his HQ dojo every saturday for a year & a half. ( 3 hrs one way from my home ) Master Yutaka Yaguchi, still amazes me to this day. 24 & 1/2 yrs after I first trained under him. Master Teruyuki Okazaki has promoted the dojo kun & world peace for the 24 years that I`ve known him. He can still hold his foot at jodan level while he is talking to you. Cathy Cline, my karate big sister, one of the nicest people I know & a fine example of keep training, even through physical challenges. Joe Dixon, my karate big brother, he just wouldn`t let me quit. I owe him big time. David Takeshida, a fine technician, the one I wish I could move like. My wife, who doesn`t train but she has supported my passion for karate for all these years. Lastly, but very important, my students who help make me a better person. Osu Paul B

For myself I first started training in Karate under Jerry Marr in Winnipeg 30+ years ago. I was only with him for two years before my father moved me to Judo but I felt that Karate was were I wanted to be.
After three years of Judo I moved back to Karate under Sensei Philip Dingman, and pretty much have not left him since. I got alot of key technical information from him, but more so his love for the art and for teaching Karate.
Under Dingman Sensei I trained with Terry Proctor, one of the toughest SOB's I had ever met and a great instructor who might not have had the technical knowledge, but he was one of the best Dojo kumite instructors I had met.
The masters I trained under with Dingman Sensei were Yaguchi, Okizaki, Takashina, Koyama and Tanaka Sensei. They all imparted so much to me in my training, especially Yaguchi Sensei who is by far my favorite instructor and the one that I trained with the longest.
As my Karate progressed and I got older I also found myself training under Imura Sensei and Saeki Sensei. I can not say enough good things about Saeki Sensei out of Ottawa. his first meeting and classes with him I saw his passion and how much he was like my own Sensei. But he was different. Outside the Dojo he was very friendly and relaxed, the second he put his belt on you could see the serious side of him come out....still friendly but very serious.
The last person that inspired and pushed me to train hard was my brother. Allan never trained a day in his life, my half brother was twice as tall as me and could be very imposing but he was a gentle giant who battled cancer with his spirit for four years....never looking sad and always cracking jokes. He lost his fight but imparted a knowledge of what true spirit is to me that I will never forget. And he was so much stronger than anyone else I had ever known.
Of all those I trained with my instructor and his son are the two that taught me the most about Karate technically, but others have taught me so much more about life!
