Hey all! For those of you that frequented the old Karate Underground message boards, you might remember me from there. For those of you that don't here's the skinny.
I started my training while in college back in 1992 with the Shotokan club at WSU. I graduated in 1994 and moved with my wife to Greensboro, NC. To my surprise there were no Shotokan clubs in the area. So, I joined a pseudo Japanese styled eclectic club that called itself Goshin Do Karate. I trained there for a few months and realized it really wasn't what I was looking for. I laid off training 2001 and went back to the Goshin Do club as there still didn't seem to be anything else worth while in the area. I trained there until 2003 and left again for several reasons that I won't go into here, but include some questionable ethics by the head instructor. I decided at this point that I was going to find a Shotokan dojo again even if it meant driving a bit to train. Low and behold I find Elmar Schmeisser teaching in Raleigh at just about 90+ miles away. I have been happily training with him ever since, earning shodan back in 2010 and looking to challenge for nidan in 2013. I now also teach a couple students once a week in my back yard weather permitting in addition to my weekly training. My personal training also includes iaido, kenjustu and a very little bit of judo.
I've been lurking here a while and finally decided I should throw my hat into the game.
Best Regards!
