Sorry I have not been around to much this summer but we had a MAJOR shake up in our local clubs and one that realy sucked me in way to deep.
One of our instructors lost half his seniors and they moved to our club. The personal issues and business issues aside its been a fairly smooth transition and the students seem to be happier now that they are transfered. But the issues are now that the instructor is accusing the head instructor and myself of taking his students when all we did was stop a big group of people from leaving the organization completely...all while dealing with an instructor realling out of control.
Its one of those weird politically charged events in your life as an instructor that really had me thinking of walking away. the instructor was CAUGHT doing some very shaddy business (taking money under the table for one thing) and had issues with his top student and administrator (kicked her kids out for petty things then wanted more time of her than she could give for running a club he just wanted the money and not to have to work). the admin left and brought her kids to us, then we had a huge group of loyal students leave his club and move to us...for a variety of things.
The harder he tried to keep students, meetings that took on a Pitty party kind of tone and arguements and name calling that just made the whole thing look like elementry school bully crap!
We took in his students and gave them a home, we told them all that if they wanted to go back to him once his melt down is over...which he has every three to five years...they are more than welcome to go back to him...to which most told us they were happier at our club now.
This is still kind of fresh and one of the reasons I did not have time for the forum..but I am back...after resigning my post as chair of the technical committee and just being chair and exec of the board now.
I am done with politics and I am back to just training and getting back to what I wanted to be in the first place, a teacher and student!
My advice to instructors one and all...keep your Dojo Drama under control and dont bring your own cord of wood for the fire....Dojo Drama will distroy the club faster than anything.
