Hello,
My name's Telmo, I live in Portugal. Started practicing Karate as a complementary art but it as since become my favorite. Currently 2nd kyu.
Currently I'm waiting a chance to reconstruct my ACL torn by a nasty injury, but I still try to practice as much as I can (mostly kihon and kata). Unfortunately, kumite may worsen the knee injury beyond repair.
Also practice Taekwondo in which I hold 3rd dan and teach a class.
best regards,
Telmo

Thank you.
Coimbra. About 200 km from the capital Lisbon.
At the moment I practice Karate alone in the gym I rented to teach Taekwondo. My injury doesn't allow me to fully participate in normal training and I wouldn't want to slow down anyone's training session, so just trying to maintain what I know while surgery remains an unavailable option.
best regards,
Telmo Amaro

Hi Telmo
I have an affinity with Portugal, in particular the Algarve where we have visited for many years to celebrate holiday's, birthday's, wedding anniversaries etc.
The village of Alvor has drawn us time after time, besides it being a beautiful place to spend relaxing hours in the sun (and sometimes in the rain) I came across a number of karate clubs (JKA, JSKA etc) in the area who have always welcomed me into their dojo and treated me with the greatest of respect.
The one dojo that I return to time after time is that of Edmundo Reis 5th Dan JSKA in Alvor/Portimao. I was fortunate enough to meet his instructor Vilaca Pinto 7th Dan JSKA who lives in the very top north west of Portugal at the August 2008 JSKA World Championships in Manchester England and later in May 2009 in Portimao on a special international technical course under Sensei Abe 9th Dan JSKA. Our meetings culminated in an interview with Vilaca which was published in the March 2010 edition of "The Shotokan Way" website ready for the October 2010 JSKA World Championships in the Portimao Arena.
I have over the years crossed trained with many disciplines both in England and abroad including Taekwondo, I remember teaching a group Bassai Dai which they took to like a duck to water.
I hope your injuries heal and you enjoy your journey into Shotokan Karate.
Best Regards Allan
