I box a bit and once I reach Shodan ( I have enough to learn until then) will look at training once a week or so in ju-jitsu to build on my ground work and take downs.

Recently taken to revising all my Juijitsu learned break falls as I'm a bit out of practice, I have an "applied" karate session about once a month (working on defences against grabs, swinging punches and general "pub" techniques), have a friend working me through some basic Aikido techniques (although he has a 20+ year Shotokan background we tend to be a lot more "up close and personal" than "conventional" shotokan distance). So yes, we mix it up a bit but (for the want of a better word) "traditional" shotokan is still the core (and majority) of what I do.

Last we covered all the heian kata plus kanku dai . Oyo from enpi and tekki then "the fence" and some up close and personal stuff to finish. Tuesday night was pad work and some circuit training plus disengaging and "gross motor skills". What fun!

At my last training session I was sitting in the departures lounge at Glasgow International.. for 8 hours... there was a distinct lack of clinch work, rolling breakfalls and precision punching drills...but a lot more beer

Ok, weird one last Sunday. Mainly focused on hip training exercises and a finished of with some yoga stretching!
With the advancing years, and general wear and tear, most of us are carrying chronic back, hamstring and other injuries. One of our number takes his yoga stuff quite seriously and he lead the last 15 minute warm-down with a range of hamstring stretching routines.
