Hello everybody
I am Jeff Capstick. I started training in Karate in 1986 and still love it now. I have also trained in various other methods to supplement my Karate training and to increase my experiences. I love pragmatic and functional Karate, critical thinking, biomechanical excellence in techniques and have an interest in the historical development of Karate. I deeply believe in the process of Shuhari and I think that this is vital to the future development of Karate. I have a career that involves dealing with real-life conflict on a regular basis and my personal Karate training reflects this.
I have absolutely no time or energy for political bickering, negative stylistic preservation and technical debates that involve the phrase "my sensei says...so it is the one and only correct way". If you cannot explain something, then you do not yet understand it properly, end of story.
I recognise some of the names and faces on here from other forums and seminars and I look forward to developing my personal knowledge base further through this forum. Nice to meet you all - figuratively speaking!
Jeff

Are you going to be at the Rory Millar weekend at Andi's place in April?

Hi Bob
I am not certain at the moment. I really want to but I am away at Iain's residential in June, and I also want to go to the joint John Johnson/Iain Abernethy seminar up in Coniontry in March because I really enjoyed the last one that I went too. I also like the sound of Dan Lewis' seminar with Iain in May, and I also want my wife to speak to me at some point this year! ;-)
Hi Alan
Thanks for the welcome and I am pleased you like the website. It is very much a work in progress, like my karate! :-D
Cheers
Jeff

I understand the negotiations that take place in these circumstances I was severely tempted when Iain published that he still had a couple of places left on the residential, and will probably still regret that I didn't take the chance, I was even given permission to go (I thought it was July BTW) but I'm already booked for the Bunkai Bash weekend mid June, have my own camp to organise a last weekend in May, with Rory Millar in April and back with Iain A. in September, adding to this I'm attending my first "Gracie" session tonight and am in the process of organising some one to one time with Rakesh Patel which will wipe out a number of weekends.

The residential courses are happening through the year, my one is in June, but the one advertised at the minute is in July. Iain is making them a regular feature I believe and was exploring the possibility of having them for individual clubs as well. Enjoy the Gracie session tonight and I am sure you will enjoy training with Rakesh. Although I haven't trained with him personally, I have heard good things about him.
I am sure we will cross paths again at some point this year!!

Oss! Welcome to the site...and as already mentioned, your site is a gem! I've gone through a few links and the site is very promising, I'm storing it for perusal over the next weeks :-) ______________ The more you sweat in training, the less you bleed in battle.

Welcome Jeff to OSS
Look forward to debating and training together at some point in the future. Are you going to Iain's course in Folkstone on the 26th (bit of a trek for you I imagine)?
Same question to you Bob.. Dave, Kenny and myself are all down for it.
I also had a trawl through your clubs site - what I found interesting was that your chief instructor's first instructor was Carrol David. I am assuming it is the same Carrol David who took my first ever karate session 28 years ago at the Seki Juku Busen in Twickenham, when I was the tender age of 15! Small world.

Hi Tom, Probably not as I'm with Rakesh Patel on 25th. I suspect my first foray out this year will be to Wantage in March. You (or anyone else) are still welcome to come up to Croxley any time, Tuesday 28th is our next "applied" get together (also happens to be my birthday ) Cheers

Oh and Happy Birthday for the 28th! Cheers T
