Hi guys it's been a while since I've been here but the question on this topic is varied on what you determine is appropriate for teaching your students at a grade they will understand, do we tell them it's purely evasion at lower grades or do we tell them it's evasion and manipulation for them to understand fully the meaning ?

From my point of view I would teach both at the same time.
It's a lot easier for me as I only teach adults so don't really need to break things down into manageable chunks so much (you can take the time to explain). There are situations where just evasion is appropriate but so much of what I teach is about body positioning correctly to close down and work on your partner that just teaching footwork as evasion gives me then another habit to break when trying to get students to close the gap.
