Hi there, I got the invite from Steve to come visit, so here I am. I am fairly new to karate, come March next year I will have been training three years. I started my journey with GKR which was a mix of Shotokan and Goju, so have experienced shotokan application. I recently changed clubs for reasons I wont bore you with and have moved on to study Shorin Ryu at a Matsubayashi club. Transition massive! But what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger - or say they say. Anyway, while I'm not a practising shotokan karateka I am a passionate karateka non the less and believe we all stem from the same tree. And it always makes for interesting discussion to get different points of view, so look forward to chatting with you all soon.

Hello fleur & welcome to OSS. A Kiwi from New Zealand eh, cool. Welcome from a Canuck in Canada. This is a good site with a lot of shared information, will look forward to your experiences & input. Shorin ryu is not so different from shotokan I trained a few times with a Shorin club & we were quite compatible. Traditional karate is all good. Osu Paul B

Hi Fleur I'm relatively new to karate too (5th kyu) so I have more questions than answers at the moment. Eveyone here is really helpful. It's tremendous that we are truley part of a global forum for discussing karate here. Greetings from Scotland
