Just thought I'd be the first to jump on this bandwagon My Saturday morning group will be doing the 1,000 kick challenge for Sport Relief this year. Quite a significant effort given that the bulk of the goup are 6 to 11 year olds (I have organised the 6-8 year olds into relay teams, even I'm not that mad ). Also look kindly on a man of advanced age who has to do the whole lot himself (I am, at least, that mad Just to make this even harder this coincides with their grading day so they will have already done and hours training and a grading before we kick (pun intended) the event off. On the off chance anybody want to support us you can do it financially at the link below my.sportrelief.com/sponsor/JordansKarateKidsAnybody just wants to support us with best wishes, that would also be greatfully received but can be done here and I'll pass them on. Cheers and thanks Bob D.

Well, they did it. Against my expectations the younger ones decided that they'd be in teams of 2 (not 4) so did 500 kicks into a pad each (not the greatest form in the world but this wasn't the day to judge ) One of them, aged 9, came back just to do the challenge today, a day after having his arm out of plaster from a recent break (not karate related) that put him out of training for 6 weeks. The one older lad there (he's 12) didn't have a partner so I said he could partner me. I was only expecting him to do the 500 as well (he has a number of issues, he is dispraxic, on the back of this he carries a lot of extra weight because he's avoided physical activity before he came to me, he is also an asmatic) however he decided that if I was doing the full 1000 then so was he and he worked damn hard to do it! This is particularly impressive as he'd already done 2 hours training and a purple belt grading before we started. It's things like this that make me happy to go back and teach week after week. This is the attitude of of a lad who should make it all the way in my opinion, to me part of what makes a blackbelt is the willingness (and ability) to go on when any body else (sensible ) would have long ago given up. Nobody's going to convince me that "all" young people want everything too easy these days. Sorry to go on I'm just very proud of them today.

Cheers Steve. (and I wouldn't shed any tears worrying about me, I'm already so far past redemption that it's not worth the time or the effort )
