Hey Guys, Thanks for the very warm welcome. Glad to be here. Will try to contribute positively, thoughtfully... fashionably... Thanks Alan for the nice words about KU. That was then, and I was glad to do it while I did. Running these kinds of boards is a huge job, so many thanks to Steve and mods for running these. I feel your pain, brothers! Yes, I am back in Japan and have been for the last few years. Went through some rather dramatic life changes, and have moved to a very new part of Japan (for me). Will fill you guys in bit by bit, as I can. Anyway, glad to see karate forums still kicking around! Wonderful! Mark

Welcome Mark.
Good to see you here, I was a massive fan of the underground forums, it was very sad when they closed.

Welcome Mark!
Where do you train in Takamatsu? (If you don't mind me asking!)
There is the possibility I will be in Fukuyama in January and will more than likely come across to Shikoku at some point. I know of one shotokan dojo between Okayama and Fukuyama but not sure if it is still open.
Thanks

Welcome Mark! Where do you train in Takamatsu? (If you don't mind me asking!) There is the possibility I will be in Fukuyama in January and will more than likely come across to Shikoku at some point. I know of one shotokan dojo between Okayama and Fukuyama but not sure if it is still open. Thanks At this time, now that I am running a business with my wife, I am not training in any dojo. It has been a bit of a shock to the system, and while I can get some mornings in the gym a couple-few times a week, my life right now cannot support me being away from work in the evenings regularly (when most people can go to a dojo). We run a group of English language schools in Takamatsu (3 right now) and our running hours are from 12:30 to 9:30. Since I am now the boss I don't finish work until 10:30pm or later. Still love karate. Still do my kata a bit in the Banana and stretch out as I can, but my dojo and my teacher, Taniguchi-Sensei are in far away Ishikawa-ken. As our schools grow and settle I am hoping for some time to be in the dojo again, but it is tricky. Takamatsu is a smaller city than Kanazawa where I used to live, and I am highly visible due to our work and dealing with lots and lots of kids and their parents. Its a bit hard to explain. I would just like to train and enjoy karate, but I know that if I go to the local dojo it will turn into a bit of a spectacle.... If you come through Shikoku, specifically Takamatsu, give me a ring. A meet-up is certainly possible!!

Mark, Taniguchi sensei is in BC at the moment. It sounds like he is well, and still kicking.
Nice to see you getting your 'karate forum fix'.
Keep well.

Welcome to the forums. There is also Ace's forum which is a decendent from KU directly. As for the karate schools, once you get the spare time, set up your own dojo like I did. I am also thinking in the future to offer a mama-san class in the mornings at a gym some where. I think it would work.

I am very glad to know that Sensei has made great friends in Canada. I think that he is very glad to have his own connections outside of Japan, and to feel very free to visit and train as he likes.

I am also thinking in the future to offer a mama-san class in the mornings at a gym some where. I think it would work. I know that there is a local JKA dojo nearby. Kagawa-ken is the smallest prefecture in Japan, and the island of Shikoku is considered "the boondocks" compared to Honshu. Would love to set up my own dojo, but as you know, John, it may be perceived as a bold move and there is always someone somewhere who will let their feathers get ruffled...

Everyone's situation is different. I guess you are thinking on being JKA. But, if you are a 3rd dan you could do it. Yes, you would be under the prefectural organization, but you would be on your own in terms of your dojo and your students. I have cross overs between my dojo and my english school, so there are benefits. But, hey, as long as your are having fun right? Ace Karate Forum www.genjitsu.co.uk
