We were doing SD tonight - defense against club attacks. One of the techniques ia to simply go in under an over-hand strike & hit the ribs hard with a fore arm. Then we just gravitated to arm conditioning & we did the human makiwara. It's just a matter of smashing your forearms together in differing patterns. You can condition your hands the same way. Anybody else do these? Or am I the only eejit? Thanks, Tom

Done forearms and shins like that in past but not many students want to take the damage these days.

We used to that kind of training at Wirral Shotokan, but that was about 20 years ago (maybe longer). We young lads were very enthusiastic about this and would wear the bruises on our arms like a badge of honour ! ;D I must add that we didn't do it all the time like the Goju people seem to do !

this is a quick way to gain long lasting deep tissue thromboses - which later produce interesting medical sequelae. I do not recommend kotekotai; I'd rather simply not have to absorb that kind of power, but instead work on parrying and evading. One does not bash Japanese swords together edge to edge; why should I do the same with my arms?
