Typical, I was out doing a leaflet drop around the local area today, did around 200 but came across only one guy in his garden, so I did the polite thing and rather than sticking unwanted junk through his door offered him a flyer and asked if he was interested. He actually took the time to read it (which is rare) and his first question was "do you know Paul Perry?", I do, he was my first instructor 33 years ago during my first brief foray into Karate. Then only this week I was chatting to a recent joiner of our dojo, a blackbelt back to training after a 10 year break and ex KUGB, although it turns out that he started with SEKU, "so, have you ever come across Terry Oliver? I asked him. "Yes, Terry was my first teacher when I was at school" (which must have been some time ago ). When the new neighbours moved in to the house next door, the first conversation was about my Gi hanging on the washing line, turned out he was a JKA blackbelt, (The previous neighbour was a Goju man) My nieces husband run a Shotokan dojo in Houghton Regis, my other nieces husband studies Shotokan up in Norfolk. The sales rep for one of my board suppliers (printed circuit) is a Shotokan man. Despite rumors that popularity is fading I'm beginning to wonder if there's anyone out there who doesn't do Karate.

a year ago I was getting a print of my instructors 6th Dan for him....hand printed by Okizaki and Yaguchi Sensei....not like the standard print certificates you get.
Anyways I was picking up the print when the guy next to me asked who it was for, I told him my instructors name and he told me he trained with him in the early 70's before the club moved down town.....the guy behind the till told me he trained with one of my old students and the lady that was picking up pictures was the mum of a student of my instructors from the 80's.........
After a akward silence I left scratching my head...but it was still cool!
