I have just been lucky enough to have spent an hours private lesson with Sensei Hyland and I can only say that after 20+ years of training with him you would have thought I'd covered it all, but this couldn't be further from the truth. Not only is he a fantastic instructor with a wealth of knowlege about shotokan karate and how it works, but he's a brilliant teacher who spends time with you to correct you for the better and also get the best out of you. If you ever get the chance to train with this man, jump at it, I have learnt so much in one hour, that it will keep me busy for the next six months

I was lucky enough to spend and hour as part of a small group with Steve Hyland last night. Although it felt like 10mins I now have a list of no fewer than 15 points relating to correct body mechanics while delivering basic punching techniques. It'll take a lot more than an hour to intergate them and get it right everytime but what a differnece in speed, power etc on the occassions I got it right. Hopefully in a few weeks I'll be employing these elements "naturaly" probably by then Steve Hyland will come back and add another 15 joking of course. it's great to have such an expert breakdown your technique then build it up bit by bit to become much more powerful.

I agree with you totally David, another fantastic session by Sensei Hyland. It's a great feeling when your form is corrected and you can feel the difference, and didn't it all make sense the structure changes he made when you got it right, mind you the I got it wrong a lot more times than I got it right, but that's great, something else to work on, and I mean a lot of work
