hey folks - i know this man and he would hate me to say it - but hard luck Dennis - he is a man to speak to. Trains like mad with a physical disability in his legs and ( in my experience only gave up once - when he accidentally hit another student hard in some Kumite and was so devastated he had hurt a friend he threw a 'paddy'.
but we calmed him down and are all over the moon he stayed. every club should have a Dennis to show us all what wimps we are.

hi Steve, I would like to take this time to thank you for all the help you have given me, my karate has now a new meaning and purpose to it, to anyone reading this Steve Hyland is by far the best Instructor I have trained under, his courses are very physical and demanding and very technical, the help Steve has given me has changed my karate for the better, Steve will be in Aberdeen in October so don't take my word for it come and train with us, ps I'm over 50 so its never too late.

Whilst i am flattered and very thankful for Den's comments above - this may well be a good time to tell ALL students out there a very real situation. Every single quality instructor I have trained under and got to know has agreed with me on this:
WE (the instructors) learn just as much from YOU (the students) as we travel around to teach. It helps us develop our study and definitely helps us to teach.
We are after all - just one Karateka on the way BUT to be exposed to so many other Karateka on the same 'way' helps us to get various perspectives that - if we are honest - are often illuminating, inspiring and VERY educational.
over time i have seen so many inspirational students that have given me far more than they think i have given them. I know I am not alone in this experience.
remember this - many people say 'I have been honoured to have trained with XXXXX Sensei. No you have it wrong. they, as i have, are the ones who are honoured that you will spend your time and money to line up and trust us to teach you something. the pressure is on the Instructors to deliver and WE owe you for turning up!
the day Den made a mistake and dropped Steve on his ars* was inspirational for me despite the possible danger. Steve showed so much spirit - clambered to his feet and made no complaint - in fact i had to order him to go and get attention to decide how injured he was. He then went into ' Is Den Okay, he didn't mean it - IS HE OKAY! Awesome.
And Den went into ' that's it I have got to pack in my f*cking legs mean i can never be sure - i have just hurt a friend! I slipped and look what i have done. I literally had to grab hold of him to calm him down.'
you will all be pleased to know both are still training and very ferocius when they face each other in the Dojo and then talk about family and normal stuff when tis over.
Lovely IMHO
