I read a few blogs on the subject of karate-do.
One fellow seems ro be a very angry one - bad mouthing anyone and anyone who crosses him (compares 8th Dans to kyu grades).
Do you think its right to bad mouth fellow karate-ka?
In my opinion we all have our own journey to follow and stories to tell. This blatent disrepect seems to go against everything karate stands for. The license book I hold mentions very little on technique - only to STRIVE for perfection of it.
Not everyone can be amazing, not everyone can teach it. We are all different with our own approach.
I wonder if anyone else has encounted things that makes them feel this strongly or perhaps they have something to add on people that are allowed to say what they feel with no consequences.
A forum is one thing, but to disrespect ones senior on the WWW.
Your in karate Will

Not to defend the guys that are being disrespectfull, but its often in response to being disrespected.
The issue is we all need to remember when we tie our belts on we are nothing special...any of us...we are part of something special however!

Fully agree.
This guy just seems to attack anyone though and I see no evidence of him being bad mouthed. Anyway, dont mean to go on - I just think he is spoiling a perfectly good blog with bitterness. It makes me feel slightly uncomfortable and may have to stop following.
With that in mind can anyone recommend any good blogs?

There is plenty to read here of good quality and sound information! I think there are 2 problems here - Karate and the WWW. I run another forum and its amazing how some people can be normal when met but complete keyboard warriors at home, also the typical user has an opinion and can rarely be wrong! Karate seems to have too many governing bodies or organizations and hasn't got a national standard so 2 people passing a grade could be at completely different levels or syllabus - I could be speaking out of turn here and don't have a massive experience of the subject - just my opinion. I know of one MA trainer who has reached Black Belt in TKD and formed his own club/org, he suddenly became a 4th Dan master and hands out gradings like sweets. I've witnessed a lot of people on Youtube criticising Kata's etc, some believe that their style or way of doing it is the "right" way and all others are "wrong" One guy was even stating that Hirokazu Kanazawa was doing it wrong. On the flip side to that though there are some really poor performances on the www, one womans Bassai Dai wasn't so much storming a fortress but more like knocking on the door.... although I don't think she deserved the rude comments that some people left! I started in Karate late in life so already had a set of morals and standards, Karate has improved these, would I criticise another - well I just have ^^^ - I don't think I would criticise those of a higher grade and I would rather help lower grades by suggesting a change to them.

I believe that Dod and Liam Watt deserve great praise for launching and developing HERE proof that Karateka can be passionate about Karate, disagree but remain respectful and supportive of each other. I wouldn't get too uptight about bitter people - they are in all walks of life and far from unique or even a product of Karate. Sad though!

I run another forum and its amazing how some people can be normal when met but complete keyboard warriors at home, also the typical user has an opinion and can rarely be wrong! Let me first state for the record that the way I am on the web is pretty much the way I am at home or in the Dojo....Its a wonder that I am let in the door or that I am still married ;D Secondly I have a very strong opinion with the things I care about (Karate included) and can be very bull headed, but I am always looking to grow and learn so I never close the door on that. (Ask Steve, I can grow and learn...even if it involves arguing and being annoying) oh, and I am often wrong...But I am also looking all the time for the right answers! I think passion is important and the want to learn is important. I do see alot of people dont share this view. Karate seems to have too many governing bodies or organizations and hasn't got a national standard so 2 people passing a grade could be at completely different levels Preaching to the congregation here brother! I have always said that when you look at groups that left the main organizations you often find that the reasons are silly and the people who left create more issues than those that stay. The standards end up being different and often not better, then you get your second set up..... I know of one MA trainer who has reached Black Belt in TKD and formed his own club/org, he suddenly became a 4th Dan master and hands out gradings like sweets. I remember having a good laugh with (A past instructor of mine)Sensei YEARS ago talking about a lad that was teaching at a local university who was a Nidan in the fall term, and when he found out that I was a nidan...he came back....A YONDAN for the next seminar...thats a two belt leap in less than six months. We laughed about it because he had his own students "VOTE" him a higher rank...I wont go into what (A past instructor of mine)said about this form of rank advancement...but it is interesting thats exactly what he did several years later. Do I have an issue with it. Maybe, but I kind of find it more funny than anything....and by the way...giving out rank like candy after that...Yah, no comment! The web is a great tool for clarity, I tend not to read the comments because they are often stupid and a wast of my time. But I do watch the videos. Even the bad ones teach me something.
