:We have an influx of new members here at the moment (which is fantastic) but as I am charged with looking after you all at the moment I thought it might be useful to give you some info about how this site has evolved and now tends to operate. I hope tis helpful. There are a number of us here whom have been involved in Karate for 40+ years and therefore longer than some of you have been alive, let alone been training. I think I am the only one whom has had Karate, and related matters, as my Profession but I know that many, like I have had extensive long term training and study with some of the world's greatest Teachers. Also many of us have also had decades of experience of dealing with real violence as another aspect of our working life. The way it has evolved here is that we will post to either create debate and aid you all - or we may join in a thread and challenge things said to again gain debate and aid better knowledge etc. Be assured it is done with helping each other in mind and please take it as such - it isn't in anywaqy a put down or patrionising and if you stay long enough you will see that. it also works both ways and we learn - especially so matters that clearly need addressing if, like I, you travel around as a guest Instructor. So remember we are not winding you up, or trying to put your points down - the aim is debate and help. Oh and do not be scared to argue here as long as you all agree to disagree agreeably! Oh and don't be scared to ask for clarification of points made or help and advice - you'll find everyone very willing to be of assistance. Enjoy!

Hmm, much food for thought there fujicolt, a wise and sage post indeed! I will ALWAYS bow in deference to people who are more experienced than myself, whether it is in my work place, or indeed my chosen art of Karate. The wealth of experience yourself and other's bring to this site, for everyone's benefit, not just us 'newbies', is, in my opinion, inestimable. You guy's--(AND gal's!)--are a valuable resource to us 'lower ranker's', and when i am reading the different posts on here, i find i am continually amazed at how much research is at my fingertips, just by following a debate! Thank you all for your input and long may it continue!

thanks micheal - but remember WE also learn so debate away! and as I say to my students: IF UNSURE ASK! AND IF STILL UNSURE ASK AGAIN UNTIL CLEAR!! you'll usually find here that someone will provide your answer and some, like Kensei, Andy upton and Bob Davies whom know how to use the internet, will often research things we aren't sure of and lead us to the answers - which is great! Enjoy - and be warned - in a years time you'll be answering the newbies questions
