All these things are relative Steve, depends on what you need, let me know what you want and I'll tell you if I can do it (been a user for both work and play for 25 years and can find my way around most things)

Hi Steve,
Need more detail really, when does it try to load "document viewer" is this when you do something specific or every time you start the computer?
If it's just when you start up then something may have got screwed up in the installation and, assuming you DON'T want to actually install document viewer you may be able to fix it by the following. I don't know which operating system you use so this is how I'd check it on Windows XP.
Click on "Start" in the menu that pops up there should be a box labeled "Run", click on this. In the box that comes up type "msconfig" and hit enter (or click "OK").
You'll get a box pop up labeled "System Configuration Utility" Move along the tabs at the top until you get to "Startup" and click on that. You now should be presented with a list of all the programmes that windows runs on startup. Scroll down that list and see if you have something that mentions Document Viewer, if so untick the box next to it and click on "ok" (it may ask you if you are sure you really want to do this but just confirm, you can always go back and fix it if it gives you any unexpected problems)
Next time you start the machine it will no longer try to run this by default.
I'll have a look on my work machine tomorrow to see if the sequence is different in Window 7 so give me a shout if you still have the problem.

Hi Bob - tried the process and managed to clean up some things but prob remains the info shown is 'an unhandled exception has occred in a component in your application. object reference not set to an instance of an object.' It gives the details and recomends activating JIT (just in time) debugging as follows - ************** JIT Debugging ************** To enable just in time (JIT) debugging, the config file for this application or machine (machine.config) must have the jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section. The application must also be compiled with debugging enabled.
For example:
<configuration> <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" /> </configuration>
When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the machine rather than being handled by this dialog.
BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO THIS..... DOH do you think it may have been something on the TALKTALK installation disc process?

No idea really as I don't have the exact details of what and when the issue started. If the only change to your setup was the Talktalk installation and the problem immediately appeared then it would point to it but if anything else has changed, been downloaded or installed (hardware or software, maybe a new printer/scanner/camera etc.) it could be anything and will come down to a process of elimination. Still don't know what operating system you are using (hint ) so I can only give you my best guess at step by step instructions. Also bare in mind that I'm only a user and tinkerer rather than an IT professional so I can only tell you what I'd do rather than explain what the problem is from knowledge. This typically works ok for me but then it's normally only me taking the risk and if I'm sitting in front of the PC then I can be methodical and systematic, in this situation I'm just taking wild stabs. If you haven't intentionally installed this programme then you probably don't want to be worrying about setting up debugging for it. The next thing I'd try (and as I'm away from my home XP pc this is from memory) is to go to "Control Panel" "Add & Remove Programs" and scroll down the list an see if Document Viewer is on there, if so you could try uninstalling it. It should then become apparent fairly quickly if something you use requires it to be installed (I suspect this will be fairly low risk). It would at least point at where the problem was and you could then reinstall if required.

I would also recommend downloading the registry cleaner for the following site and running it, (this may or may not fix the problem if the above doesn't work but is worth doing on a reasonably regular basis anyway, in fact it may be worth doing this first) www.eusing.com/free_registry_cleaner/registry_cleaner.htm

Steve - would also be useful to know when the error occurs - is it when opening a document or when starting web vbrowser or what ?

OK, it may well be down to something left by the AOL uninstall, try the registry cleaner as the first port of call.
In the mean while if you need to turn the machine off and something running that you can't shut down normally won't let you hit "Ctrl, Alt & Del" at the same time and bring up Task Manager. If you click on the Applications tab along the top it will list any programs that are running which may be stopping you shutting down. Just click on any that are running (or not responding) and hit "End Task" to close them, once there is nothing left in the list just close task manager and you should be able to shut down as normal.

Doing a bit of a Google search it would appear that AOL has a bit of a reputation for leaving all sorts of junk behind when unistalled so this is probably the first thing to work through.

Steve - you mentioned you'd tried system restore and had no luck - did you roll back to a point before you switched over and installed the Talk Talk software ?
Would also help if you can cut/past in the problem details it lists - the modules etc. when the error happens.

Steve - looks to be mistly HP (Hewlet Packard) Driver related to me - is your PC a HP model or do you have an HP printer/all-in-one printer/scanner attached ?
If so I'd go to control panel and use add/remove programs to uninstall any HP related programs or drivers and then reconnect printer and allow it to reinstall drivers.
If this causes furyher problems use system restore to roll back.
