I am sad to announce Paul Fey 4th Dan has been in a motor accident and is in hospital following surgery on a shattered ankle. I am sure friendship course attendees will remember Paul and his inspirational effort and spirit on both this years courses despite having endured two double hip replacements in the last ten years. we could say 'Paul yer daft sod what were you doing cycling at your age?' but instead we'll say Get well soon Paul - yer daft sod

Bad luck Paul, best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery. Steve, it must be becoming apparent by now that none of us are "at our age" (and long may that last!)

Thanks guys for all your good wishes. Damage was limited to a broken bone in my ankle which has been fixed with a couple of screws, feeling a bit like the Bionic man what with the hips and all, more important, the bike is probably a write off! Anyway there are people with far more serious problems than me so I count myself very fortunate.

Hi Paul, it's good to see you're on the road to recovery, it could have been a lot worse, you can always get another bike Paul can I ask if you could put your name in the signature box on your profile, thanks

Hi George, Currently have lower leg cast in place which is there for another 4 weeks, am not allowed to put weight on it during this time, this should then be removed and I should then be able to walk on it. Physio will follow on to get the ankle moving again. When I asked the Doctor how soon I could be training again he just looked to the heavens in despair!. I reckon about 8 weeks or so.

Hey Paul I had my ankle pinned back together after a motorcycle accident in Greece 34 yrs ago. the technology back then was nowhere as sophisticated as now and I guess i did okay training on it - so you'll be fine. I guess Doctors must write special info on the ceiling - as my Doctors look upwards when i ask questions as well

Not just Doctors it seems, I showed the original quote to my wife (in an attempt to make myself seem more normal ) and said "there, and you think I'm bad" to which her answer was simply "yes" I think the most dispairing look I ever got was from my regular dojo instructors a week before my Shodan, trying to do press ups on my left arm only because the ribs I'd cracked the week before made it too painful to use the other one (that's another telling off I got, ho hum ), although I've had others that come close ;D
