Hello Andy
Please give Sensei Cope all my best wishes for his 78th birthday. I visited the dojo in Bebington early this year and spoke to him of the early days of the Liverpool Red Triangle Karate Club which gave him a very visible glint in his eyes. We spoke of him opening a dojo up on the Wirral to help supplement Sensei Enoeda's income and the rest is history. British Karate is what it is today for pioneers like Sensei Cope. He is mentioned profusely in Dr Clive Layton's series on the beginnings of British Karate from the humble beginnings of Vernon Bell.
Respectfully suggest to fellow karateka who are "new" to our art to google Sensei Frank Cope and read his amazing recollections in various media.
One of his recollections was turning up for training at the Triangle and looking through the gap in the doors/windows to see who was in the dojo which would decide whether to train or not!! If you decided to stay there was NO political correctness just good hard training.
I sincerely hope that his health has improved and he has spring in his step.
Best Regards Allan
