I am rewriting my whole training program and overhauling my Karate training completely for 2013. Anyone else have plans to change their training this new year? Any plans to do anything Karate related that you may not have been doing before? Changes, improvements or alterations?

I was just thinking the same sort of thing, although we still have a large amount dedicated to the 3 K's, and lots of syllabus work near grading times, I think we shall be introducing more Kumite based sparring and self defence work, heavily based on practical Kata applications.
I rarely have a training plan though, I may bend the lesson to work more on what is slacking by some of the current class members - for example, if their stances are not good or deep enough then I will go into 10 minutes of stance work.
I am keen to see very good students at the next grading in speed, power and technique, but also to see them more able to handle themselves in actual situations. For those that just want to drift in for a bit of Karate then they will get a good workout too!

My new training program includes alot more cardio to counter the holiday bulge that has developed....over the last three years of holidays....LMAO....cant wait for the dreaded jogging program! My Karate is going to be a lot more about kumite and kicking for fitness...getting old..anything that helps is welcome!

I am another one who must do something about the `holiday bulge`. Damn how come 3 weeks of goodies, can undo 3 months of hard work. Oh well, the plan is to get more diligent on using my TRX, along with altering our class schedule to allow more time with my seniors, working, with sparring combos, pad work & more advanced kata. We had just kind of started in this fashion prior to the holidays & it seems to be working well. Of course kicking. Also for me running is no longer an option, but our Town is in the mountains so walking up hills is an option. We have a new up hill path with 120 steps followed by another hill to my house from downtown. Time to start walking when doing basic errands. Oh and getting back to doing 120 knee bend squats a day. ( sets of 20). I squat down to backside even with the knees & upon raising lift arms high over-head & push the center of my feet to push the hips forward. Excelent core excercise..
Now to put the words into practice..

Some great information on Andre Bertel's blogspot covering a festive season training schedule that could be applied anytime.
Best Regards Allan
