Best of luck, sometimes gradings should not be seen as a test but as a celebration of the skills you have learnt. I take it you are on Bassai Dai now?

Do your best, show your hard work has brought you physically and mentally further along and see if the instructors agree you are ready to learn more and have more responsibility. Enjoy and just give er....we expect to see the results as well, dont leave us hanging.!

Yep, well done from here too!
Bassai Dai is a very impressive Kata when done with power, speed and feeling.
On the plus side more Kata to learn soon, onwards and upwards! Well done! ;D

BTW, what's happening in 12 weeks? I would say that he is referring to the next grading. For some reason 12 weeks seems to the normal grading 'waiting' period within the UK in Kyu levels. Congratulations on your kyu ... each small step is one that is closer to the end goal .. Have you defined an end goal yet? Where do you see your karate taking you?

12 weeks is when we grade for 1st kyu then a minimum 9 months before we can sit our Dan grade if we are ready.
Rob I dont have any goals for my karate other than enjoy the training and the journey. I am really getting into the bunkai or applications of the kata's. I dont really buy into the fighting several people scenario but do see real fighting skills and applications in breaking it down into segments. I dont ever see me being a smooth elegant karate practicioner. I am rough and dont have the flexability, finesse or movement but I do love it. At first I wanted to achieve my black belt but now i just want to try and perfect my core/hip movement making my punches flow and build on the height and snap of my kicks maybe in another 30 years I will achieve it.
Thanks again to everyone for your support.

You sound like you've got the right attitude for a good Brown belt, the 1st Kyu and Black belt are not goals but milestones on your training path. Keep it up and enjoy!
Bunkai is indeed the search for applications for lots of mini sequences within the Kata. Search for Iain Abernethy and John Burke for alternative views on Kata.
Don't worry about rough and inflexible, you will constantly improve if you train hard and often.
