Our Wado friends would have us believe that there are secret throws in jitte. ( friends is a term for people bigger than me I need to buy sweets).
If some one comes at you with a big stick turn your hands back on the stick and then you can out lever the person with the stick and you have control. Makes sense to me, I don't need to turn it into a secret throw.
On a side note isn't it bit psychotic to call your stick Jo? Mines called Ron and his little brother is Luke. ( after Bo Luke in the dukes of hazzard, a documentry about the South of the USA)...

If someone comes at you with a big stick... Run away in the opposite direction ASAP!

There is an argument to suggest that there are a number of Kata that originally were designed to provide fighting strategies for weapons... for me Jitte is a clear example of one of those.
When looking at the bunkai, sometimes it is worth concidering this... rather than desperately trying to fit a very square peg in a tight round hole... (said the actress to the bishop)
Less of a secret more of a re-discovery...

I think it is Hicks law which says the more things you can choose from the longer it take to make a choice and react. I like simple as I can relate to simple.
Gojoshinho Dai and sho some of the techniques are really simple chicken fist etc shrugging off a bear hug, it is about all I can cope with.
I now must get back to reading Sheakspere and putting in lots of hidden meanings that Bill didn't intend or have the education to be able to. Second thoughts he probably got it from wiki and believe Stratford Grammer has a good internet connection.

The good thing about Kata is that you can make many different applications for each movement in a Kata....the bad thing about Kata is you make many different applications for each movement in Kata.... ;D
Speaking of laws. I like to think of Occams Razor when I think of an application for a kata....can it work...among competitng hypotheses, the hypothesis with the fewest assumptions should be selected.
"that down block is a great hip throw for someone that attacks you after jumping out of the bushes and grabbing at your throat" ...or "you are blocking his kick"......
"that move is removing a stick from his hands, twisting it and then throwing him over with the fast twist of your hands"...or "you are grabbing the stick and ripping it out of his hands...so you can beat him about the head with it"......

Hi Elmar
Interesting, this is exactly what I spent last Tuesday working on (on the back of this thread), performing Jitte WITH a stick rather than against. It doesn't stretch the imagination too far to make it work.
Although I couldn't recall the article itself I did have a recollection that you had put forward the possibility many years ago.

I even wrote a poem to go with the Kata.
I will take your staff and shove it up your ...... I will take your staff and shove it up your ...... Don't make a scene when I rupture your spleen I take your staff and break it in half Then go escrima all over your ......
I know it needs work but it helps focus when doing the kata. If you bring your own stick it ruins the poem and it's beauty.
Note I find escrima sticks work easier than a jo in a small space.
