Why has the look of the site changed ? What was wrong with it ? It was fine as it was. AND...I'm not a new member.

Hi Andy
I am with you, the new site format is HORRENDOUS.
If you do not have a profile "picture" the one allocated makes us all look like alien clones!!
Thought that the new look and provisions was going to be something along the lines of "The Shotokan Way" format but sadly not to be.
Apologies if anyone is offended but this surely cannot be in the name of progress??
Best Regards Allan

Finding the most recent posts is now really hit and miss. If you do not log on everyday you soon lose track of any threads.
I tried to post in the shoutbox, can't but the spammers are making it work really well.
I borrowed a pc which was infected and the ip address has been permantly blocked, shame the people at proboards can't do the same for all that Banana sink crap that keeps appearing.
I am sure funkoshi didn't have these problems with his blog. I am sure there is a kata with a hidden meaning about posting.

I managed to change my alien avatar for something else in my set up pages. have to agree that the old site was better in that you had a simple place to go to find all new posts. Hate having to search through all the rooms to find new stuff.

Taking my Admin hat off for the moment I was surprised as anyone by the change BUT the world moves on it seems and there are a number of options in the new version that just were not supported in the old version (some I like, some I don't and some don't bother me one way or the other).
Having said that I'm interested by the "whinging" from members of the forum considering that we are all guests here and do nothing to justify having any sense of entitlement to a say. All the work in running (and funding)the forum are down to Liam and Dod, it is their site and we are just visitors. I have heard it said in the past that we should address each other as we would in the dojo, so I ask, as a guest would you walk into someone's dojo and say, "oh, I don't like the curtains, or the pictures on the wall and I can't find the toilet so it's obviously in the wrong place, you should make it look like so and so's dojo".
If you don't like the avatars then go into you profile and change them, or just turn them off! If you don't want to trawl through the hundreds of posts we get every day (a bit of sarcasm there, just in case anybody failed to spot it :-)) then scroll to the bottom of the page and use the "recent threads" or "recent posts" button.
Come on guys, we are all grown ups here (pretty much), just make some effort on your own part and if you can't find something just ask (somebody will find it at some point)
A forum is the sum of it's members and it's content, if that isn't enough for you then the choice is simple enough, nobody forces you to visit and if you like it better elsewhere........
So, does anybody have anything constructive to suggest or should we just get back to letting Liam and Dod run THEIR site the way that THEY see fit.
Just a thought.

Hi Bob
I get your first paragraph non admin hat and all that.
Second paragraph onwards is a little bit "heavy" and confrontational do you not think since all that we are doing is giving an opinion which as contributors we are invited to do, do you now have your admin hat on?
No one is "wringing" as you put it, we are simply exercising what you describe as "A forum is the sum of it's members and it's content". No one mentioned about trawling through the hundreds of posts and no sarcasm is evident.
Do we all need to be given ultimatums for this site to progress?
Chill out and please do not read into something that is not present.
Best Regards Allan

Let be very clear I am my comments at the landlords of the site proboards who have changed things to suit themselves. If I went to a dojo and the landlords didn't carry out repairs I do not see how an instructor would see that as a comment about them.
The recent post thing is a filter that is fairly easy do at least it is on the sites I run, but I control the servers and can configure them to suit myself and do not have to relie on proboards to sort it out.
The people that run this site do karate so who expects them to be great with websites, they have done a good job, now the hosts proboards are letting them down not allowing them to run it their way in the way they see fit.
I train in some real dumps and I would not see someone saying they are dumps as an attack on me personally but I understand if you want to be alone.

Your Victor Meldrew impression was very funny!

Ok, it may have been a (slight) over reaction but still an opinion (and as I said, personal not admin). I'll hold my hand up to that one (time was it used to be my Dad but I guess that's just the way it works ) For our non-UK residents who may not know who Victor Meldrew is click here

Hi Bert, I understand what you are saying and if I wanted to be alone I have the same option as everyone else (no one makes me come here ) However I still find value and enjoyment in the site, just don't feel that the first recourse should be to moan about things that (with very little) effort we can fix for ourselves, (I also may be a little over defensive of the site, perhaps).

Hi Bob
I find the site useful and would probably post more often if I didn't feel I would upset someone as I have by accident. The moan/comment as resulted in someone pointing out where we can find a recent threads at the bottom of the page.
As I find it far more entertaining to be offensive in person I do not feel the need to do it here.
(Don't walk round the supermarket in your pajamas, invite people from the crowd, wear black gi when you stand in the carpark, get upset when it is pointed there is only 5 of you and one of me so you are outnumbered etc etc.. These are actions are clearly an invitation to be insulting)
As there are only people that do karate and wimps, you can tell I don't take myself too seriously( irony).
As for Nancy the bloke I do boxing with he wears gloves to keep his hands soft to do the washing up for his wife, I am surprised he still speaks to me, Oh yes he doesn't just speaks with his hands and tries to hit me.
Anyway thanks for the reply.

It's natural to find change difficult, buttons in different places or named something else but it will soon become comfortable. I think we may have gone up in versions of software which is a good thing, more secure and more features. I work in IT and always get the same reaction with new software, but when you get used to it then its fine. I think constructive criticism would be more appropriate.

Wow, when did this site change? Okay, I am going to reserve my thoughts till I work through it a bit. This is what happens when I take a week of pure training and not go to the PC!
