Yet again Sensei Hyland conducted an extremely valuable course in Aberdeen this weekend.
Each session was arranged in order that the 1st part of each class we trained in "Basic" Kihon. I must use the term "basic" loosely as this does not reflect the high level of insight and instruction offered by sensei Hyland.
The second half of each class was reserved for training in Tai Sabaki which developed in complexity and intensity over the weekend. It was unanimously agreed by all karateka who trained that, the techniques and approaches we learned (and will continue to practise and develop) are far from shrouded in mystery rather; they would certainly be effective and decisive in a real confrontation.
For reasons which have already been documented on the OSS forum this course went ahead despite many adversities and I’m truly humbled to be part of a club which has such true spirit and compassion in abundance.
Best wishes to everyone who was unable to attend this exceptional course.
Oss!

OHHH NNOOO! and for the sake of my orthopedic consultaant - I Didn't even put a Gi on, remained on my crutches, used others to demonstrate whilst i gave verbal instructions and sat down a lot of the time AND YES I am convalescing and slowly getting mobile after the surgery! and Dave - thank you for your kind words - we'll chat about it when i am next in Aberdeen. but it was a pleasure to be amongst a Karate group who did show such spirit and kindness over the period I was there. It is clear that you all have the utmost respect and Admiration for George Watt 3rd Dan - your Club Instructor.

I have to say that the threat of being caught with mawashi crutch waza definitely kept everyone in check. On the other hand they served as a useful pointing stick. "stand there please, no there, NO there, THERE!!!!"
