I am a little worried that as a result of lack of activity on here I may be actually getting my job done.
This is an awful state of affairs doing what I am paid to do.
So if someone could post any topic here I promised to disagree, if I am unable to give reasoned argument, I promised to result to childish name calling.
Anyone want to play?
To get the ball rolling " stupid things Funakoshi wrote"
"Anyone who does not do as their older brother says, is not fit to do Karate"
Alright for you Gichen, being the oldest but, did you really think that one through?

I have read "my way of life " 4 or 5 times now and every time I feel that it is more the ramblings of a senile old fool than the memoirs of a great karate master.
Things like "I attribute my long life and fitness to always living in a house with stairs!" And the refusal to say the word "socks" as he felt that such a simple object was beneath him!

I am kind of hoping that you are "looking for a fight" like previously posted! The fact that you point out living in a house with stairs, well its been pronion in modern times that those that take the 'lift' or 'mobiles' (escalators) are less fit than those that walk the stairs. and I just read a report that says older people that use the stairs more are generally more healthy, score one for Sensei F! Also, the fact that he did not use the word "socks" was a cultural thing. In his age it was seen as beneith his level to refer to specific things, not just him, and as long as the cultural norm is not harming anyone I am totally against attacking someones culture! Do I find it silly that he would not say socks, yes..but I respect that was his culture and the dictates of his time!

" Karate is good for young men to learn for military service and for teaching japanese culture to invaded countries" I think this was written in the 20's before they actually tried it, at that time the culture was to be jingoistic and want to take things by conquest. The cultrual norm at the time, do you respect this too?
