Today, I chanced upon the 24fightingchickens.com website. It's great, but by all indications, it is no longer active (Archived). From what I see, I felt that many senior members of this forum are aware/were active on that site as well? Just curious - what happened, why did it stop?

Hi Deepak
24FC was a great site and all archived information make great reads.
You can contact Rob Redmond on Facebook and I am sure he will give you the reason(s) as opposed to people's theories on why he decided to move on.
Best Regards Allan

Hi Deepak
If you read the most recent posts, he explains very clearly why he stops.
There is a post about selling all his karate books as he no longer needs them. The site started in 1995 as the Atlanta karate club. He spent a few years in Japan and his instructor said people need to know the truth.
There is another post about his instructor in Japan passing away and he says he feels it time to move on and pursue other interests.
There are people that do not like what he had to say and where really offensive. So I expect they will be really pleased and they hypocritially recite there dojo chants.
His site going will effect me more than, the latest instuctor to leave such and such organisation who give less for more.

Here is the thing guys, I am one of those people that had my verbal spats with Rob, I would say every post we shared was pretty much a back and forth that ended up with me just kind of throwing my hands up. He was like every other cyberbully I ran into back in the day and while he had great info on this site, seemed to have known his stuff their was this horrible hurdle that you had to cross before you were allowed to have a thought on his web forum....his ego! I did not much like Rob and he burned me alot for forums back then, took a few years for me to actually give it a try again.
It was so much better when he dropped the pretence of wanting to talk about stuff and just made it a blog style web site! I think I visited it twice, read the posts and felt that it was the same "Shoto-bashing" BS that he spewed back in the day. About 90% good stuff and 10% complete unreadable self serving twadle!
I dont much care if he shut it down, he admitted on the site he actually stopped training in a dojo a few decades ago, and stopped completely training in Karate about 10 years ago. The value of the site was based on things he got from his instructor back in the day and beyond that it was pretty much a bitter guy spewing his own organization bashing ideas about. I stopped reading when he started bullying!
Best wishes to him in his future endevours, obviously Karate lost interest for him. It happens. He was probably a great guy if you sat and had a beer with him or something but my suggestion, read the web site but get your but to the club and train to make up your own mind about stuff he brings to the table.

I connected to the FB site for 24C, but found it to be just a lot of Karate-bashing; irrespective of the merits of the statements, I found it useless for me...opted out now! Taking Kensei's statement a step forward - I need to get to the club and train, and not spend time in debates myopically focused on how horrible this art is!

I agree Deepak, The one thing that irks me the most about some "Karate-Ka" is their penchant for debate over training. I also get rather ticked off with myself for getting wrapped up in said debate and "suckered" into the conversations squandering the limited time I spend on the net! I really believe my time is better served viewing good videos and exchanging ideas and not bashing each other about how horrible Karate is or how terrible a organization is.
Now, back to my quick 1/2 hour scan of the site and back to work! LOL!!

I find I have do something as I am recovering from training and wasting time at work. Whilst I thought some of the articals in the website where interesting and you will see many comments that I have bored people with.
I really have found the facebook offering has not got me interested and seems a little off the wall.
Do not sign a contract seems good advice if you are in the USA.

Do not sign a contract seems good advice if you are in the USA. I have never seen this, not being an American I think that its just not a cultural thing here. I would never sign a contract for a Gym or for a Karate club and I dont ask my students to do so as well.
