Okay, so I am on many forums and discuss Karate WAY TO MUCH from what my wife has to say but lately I have noted a trend that kind of scares me on one of the other forums that I belong to.

The other forum is called a Karate forum but really its an All martial arts on board kind of forum that even has areas like TKD, Judo, Jujitsu, kendo ext and so forth. Normally I see and delete the TKD forums and those parts of the forum that basically dont really interest me and I read the Karate area and some of the general areas. Well this American run forum is big into not offending others with words like Ass, Butt and other such things....Can you imagine me not being able to say I was acting like and ass clown...my wifes favorite term for me!

So, it came as a DRASTIC suprise to me when the topics of women in Martial arts, politics and religion were left unchecked in a forum that says that it polices things that may be seen as offensive! I was floored and figured its worth a round here to let people understand that these are OFF TOPIC AREAS and the posts that say "hey Im a (Add belief system here) and I want you to be a (add belief systems term for those that practice it here) with me" or " if you are a (add belief system)...or you are not a ( Add belief system here) like me you are going to HELL". Well my friends...Hell is Winnipeg at minus 50 degrees, Im in Hell it aint getting any worse!

seriously, As we treat the OSS much like a Dojo and we all kind of come together to chat about Karate...you know KARATE not (add belief system or diety you pray to here), we can not allow for specific subjects to purge the Cyberdojo walls and become a blight or cancer as you will on our beautiful Dojo floors!

I am fairly sure in saying that we all know that their is several subjects that should never be broached while chatting here and to be open and honest I dont see why its neccessary for someone who is (again, Add belief system here) to go about and try to prove its the best! or recruit others...if its the best dont you think we would all want to be "IT". It becomes a pissing contest between opposing factions and suddenly the topics of...oh, I dont know...Karate...become secondary and forgotten over my belief system, politica views on....well anything politicall...are better than yours or right and you are wrong.

We have to agree that some topics just are not things we need to talk about. I am grouping things here pretty loosly too, I mean we can all agree that religioun/belief systems have NO PLACE in the Dojo and would then have no place here. Politics are a no no as well. And I would have to add stories or beliefs that are not concreate even about our own Karate systems should be watched pretty closely. We have all seen what happens when one person says " I had an instructor who knew a guy that trained with this high level JKA instructor once who happened to have trained with Asai on a Sunday morning before he died and said....." yah, its not good.

Lets leave the hot button topics for other forums that might like the fires they create and while our little corner of the web is much more quiet the topics we do discuss will be much more beneficial to everyone and we will all avoid wars and flame outs.

So, in a nutshell and to clarify what your saying, we should not discuss politics, religion or belief systems that fallout of the realms of martial arts?

As you know I have a pet unicorn from previous posts, I also believe in the spread of the Easter bunny. I find when you put these interesting facts here people just ignore it.

Rather than a long list of banned topics just ignore the trolls. If you don't reply the topic dies.

I notice that twitter thinks death treats are a freedom of speech issue and will not assist the police with information about who is making them, but it is ok to spy on your friends. Only in America!

What belief systems are we not allowed to discuss? All street fights go to the ground? Kata is a defence against multiple Karate trained opponents? You must keep your feet flat on the ground? The power of Chi? The power of Ki? Anything postulated by Dillman? All good things come to those who wait? Never invade Russia in Winter?

in place of "Do not speak of this" lets insert "lets respect that fact that we are not all of the same belief systems (Religion/politics/which hamberger joint makes the best fries) and respect this fact...especially in hot topic situations and for gosh and golly sake lets not fight over it....McDonalds clearly has the best fries to clog those poor arteries of ours!

First off...what the heck do you feed a Unicorn...I dont want to list a "do not fly" zone style list of things, but the fact is that I have seen lots of these troll topics be seriously damaging to other forums. My thing is, and what I so poorly demonstrated by posting on 1 hours sleep and 12 cups of coffee is...lets treat this forum like a dojo...like a Dojo with Respect being put first and not argue about things not really important to Karate. My bad for brining it up, but I was litterally blown away by the poor attitudes and lack of respect on another forum and I kind of covet this forum as a home Dod built for us and did not want to see that same fate here..

And after feeding teh Unicorn, who picks up the poop? and does it have any magical quality you can sell it for??

A) the term I was avoiding was Religion! I think you knew that but wanted to be a smart ass...which I totally respect and probably would have done myself if I was in your shoes.

B) ONLY A FOOL ATTACKS RUSSIA IN THE WINTER! come on man!

C) you missed dont swim for a half hour after you eat, dont wear white after some made up day of no importance and the sun always shines on TV (1980's rock reference!)

As we now know unicorns eat fairy dust, and the poop makes the room smell nice, when you try to sell it they keep claiming they can't see it. This is becuase they don't believe.

Some dojo's are just rude and offensive. It is tradition that they are right and you are wrong, so you normally get mocking and derision. Most make new comers unwelcome by not speaking and you have to find the instructor, who often does not make it obvious who it is. They you have to sign up for the yearly fees whilst no one is talking to you. After a few weeks if you haven't given up some might start talking. I normally expect by sexuality to be questioned, and the ubiqudus death treat. So much like a forum then....

I like the fact that people have other belief systems. It makes for a more interesting world and makes you think about stuff outside of your own world and consider other possibilities. The important thing is to not be negative about stuff in an offensive manner to others.

James I read through that and thought I was going mad no wonder your wife thinks you spend too much time on karate forums. I like OSS because its about training I like my church because its about my beliefs and I like the idea of a unicorn if anyones selling one lol

I just have the one, a pet called Eric. I haven't thought of farming them commercially as you need a castle to hold them or a warlock's spell which make it difficult to farm them on a large scale as the over heads are huge. So I expect these are fake as the cans are far too cheap.

I think for unicorns you also have to be pure of heart and mind too!... could be a challenge
