as you are aware I am a strong advocate for Shotokan Karateka looking at, training in and gaining information from other styles and approaches. I think we would all agree that, although some of the history is vague or lost, Karate's origins lie in huge influence from Chinese martial arts.
well, I found this interesting little site that i thought you may wish to take a peak at.
I find it useful because it is well constructed and gives many opportunities for visitors to view sample clips from a very wide variety of divd's that show there training methods -
everything from warm- ups to forms, pushing hands etc.
for the kata lovers out their - if you really look closely, IMHO, you can see many movements that would take little translation to become possible implications of applications from our kata.
I also, because of a very long interest in the usefulness of kinesthetic learning - meaning gaining info through the feelings etc when actually touching your opponent rather than only receiving visual input - i have always liked the way the chinese martial arts train on this so diligently.
Also watch how the guy uses his contact with the opponent to place his feet or legs in positions to help his intent.
now i realise - like wise old Bob Davies said - that you can pull any video apart but i think if you have an open and inquiring approach there is stuff here that can spark your thinking and help us all learn to have a wider mindset.
enjoy
