I ahve heard lots of less than helpful comments about Ohta Sensei when he took over after Enoeda Sensei passed, usually from people who had never trained with him. look at this. In my humble opinion a quality of karate that stands up to any in the world - and i believe that even if you had never practiced karate you would see the grace, power and awesome skill in this expression of a living art form. beautiful IMHO www.youtube.com/watch?v=frF6ps3lxGY&feature=related

I have trained with sensei Ohta twice and found him to be very approachable and affable. He particulary impressed me with his take on "individual karate" based on a persons height , frame etc. Very impressive .

I know what you mean hear Jim - he once told me 'based upon your height, frame etc Stebie - I suggest you go do Sumo for Little short *rs*d Folk!' Seriously his form is simply wonderful to watch.

i have been lucky enough to train many times with ohta sensei when he was still with the kugb and always found him a very approachable and very able karateka, many times at the crystal palace courses with enoeda sensei after the set sessions he would help us on technical points in kata which was a great help before grading under the boss.

Commenting strictly on Ohta Sensei's video performance it is obvious that his Kata is excellent. Although I have never trained with him personally I assume that his performance is a clear indication of the quality of his Karate. I would not hesitate to train with him if the opportunity arose. Perhaps the negative comments surfaced not because the quality of his Karate or his teaching abilities, but because of the political issues surrounding his departure from the KUGB after Enoeda Sensei's passing. A regretful situation. Kind regards, Scott Middleton www.traditionalkarateofbrandon.ca

True enough, Ohta Sensei's Karate is smooth and you can see the power he can generate.
The issues I think came up with Politics when a junior was given the head of the English Karate. Not to dredge up hard feelings but I recieved a tone of personal emails when this happened...and Ilive in Canada! If everyone just realized that the guy at the top is more an administrator and has much more duties to do...most of us would not be as quick to want that job.
Love him for his Karate, feel sorry for him becuase of politics and his job as the new head guy...thats how I feel! Being at the top does not always mean you have all the fun or that its fun at all!

Fortunately, Im attending a course next weekend in Norway, which Ohta sensei is one of the instructors, amongst 10 other top japanese senseis( Norway JKA´s 25 anniversary)! Haven´t trained with him in 12 years, looking forward to it. Remember his classes as always inspiring, and as you all say, excellent form! Lucky me

As it is N-JKAs anniversary, and my club is not affilliated with them(independent) it is exciting to train with other people and instructors:-) Will probably be a great course! But yes, 25 years, just a baby

My Sensei is graded by Ohta Sensei, he's going for 4th Dan soon, he obviously doesn't have a bad word to say about him. Sometimes it's good to leave politics at the door.

It is what it is - a beautiful rendition of a Kata - all else is just nonsense and inter agency angst - so very sad!
