Thank you Bob Davis for putting together a great weekend of MA and a special thanks for arranging all of the great food, the baking of cakes, biscuits etc was over and above what was required so was extra special, please pass on our thanks again. There was a good theme going of "non-standard" and even included a session on swords - although they only let us loose on the wooden type! We got a lot out of the weekend and met some great people and instructors. Hopefully we managed to raise some money for charity in the process! Looking forwards to the next one.

Hi Mal, Glad you enjoyed it and thanks to you and Aidan for coming, will let you know as and when we will be doing it again. Total raised for "Christopher's Smile" after the cost were settled, just venue hire and food, all the instructors gave their time for free (and put their hands in their pockets as well) was £375.00. As this was my first attempt I'd targeted between £200 & £400 so am quite happy with £375, if we can get the word out it can only get better next time

Interesting comment (I thought, anyway) following up from the camp. I was chatting to one of our Dan grades as he'd asked me how it went and discussing that we'd done some wrist/arm/shoulder lock flow drills, some Heian applications, some kata based throws and some pad work drills (using gyaku tzuki, gedan barai and shuto uke) as part of our camp at which point the question asked was "did you have any Shotokan there?", the impression being that none of the above were Shotokan Is it just me that finds that a bit sad?

DOH! It's all in Shotokan, you just have to see it and practice it... The weekend has got me more interested in the theme and I've just received a grappling book by Iain Abernethy. Also looking at the work of Patrick McCarthy again. I've also changed some of my Kumite sets so they are closer range and not the daft long range version, like cross block against a kick. Really glad we raised some cash which was a great effort for the first one, hopefully same time next year, can we next have Aikido and Capoeira, but not the Indian one that Tom suggested where they are covered in oil....

Hi Mal, Aikido (or more accurately, given the instructor, Aikijitsu) should be no problem, would have done it this time apart from a conflict with holiday dates, and the fact that I had too many instructors step forward to offer their time to fit everything in (not a bad problem to have ) Not sure about the Capoeira, and what Tom does in his own time is entirely up to him Will almost certainly run the camp again same(ish) time next year and, given the practicality (and economy) of the venue we may do a couple of training days (maybe October & April) if there's enough interest.

Maybe he'll understand if he learns about it from GF.

Great Weekend.. Although I was disappointed that we didn't have any Turkish wrestling..
although having been thoroughly squashed by Bob during the Gracie JJ set, it was probably enough man-hugging for me...

Thought we might run an hour on this for the next camp, 100 Ways (Although Paul Herbert did cover some of this )

Master Ken is my hero! I must remember to bring my box next time, it was Paul H's mate that realised i wasn't wearing one after a sneaky attack because my knees were too far apart.... Are there any pics yet?

Thanks Bob, found them all and copied a few to share, great memories of the techniques and a good weekend. Just found another club nearby who likes close up grappling/throwing work from Kata, so in my element and have shared a few things that i've learnt. It's a shame when you witness mid level Dan grades re-hash the long range "kid" applications because they have never learnt or been shown anything different. Please let us know when you next hear of a get together amongst the group of friends, I can't make the Bunkai Bash but will keep my eyes open for anything interesting. PS - anyone know of a good Dojo in Malta...
