Okay, basically, I think I'm at a stage where hip use is pretty much totally unconscious (although far, far from perfect ). However, I know that my legs should be playing a much bigger part - what exactly should I be doing? I would ask at my Dojo, but training was cancelled all of this week thanks to snow, and will probably be cancelled next week - then it'll be christmas etc etc. Just means I'll have to put in more hours at home I guess thanks, Alex

Alex there are times when hip rotation can not be achieved i.e. close quarters, and there are other ways of producing and transferring energy, one way is dropping your weight in conjunction with pushing from the ground through your stance. Kase Sensei is a good example of this, have a look at him on youtube

I would politely suggest that you probably as we all do) speed typed the above, because if your hip usage has got to the point of being 'totally unconscious' then you should have mastered what your legs are doing. give us a bit more info and i will try to help.

He always surprises me damn it He could totally pull of the "fat old man" look, but damn, I would not like to end up on the receiving end of his fist (or any other part of his body for that matter ).

It's only a matter of time I must own up to having an unopened (don't know how that happened) bottle of Laphroaig in the cupboard waiting for Christmas, it's a long old wait.
