Yah, I dont get it. Segal "helped" Anderson silva as well, we all thought it was a joke. Then Machida. Now I know they are both part of black house training but...is it a joke???

don't care what anyone says about Seagal - he has worked as a frontline cop = fairplay IMHO Have you watched his show?? Saying Segal is a front line Cop is like saying a minor league player is a major league base ball star. It is a PR thing and he is normally seen about 389 feet away from any real danger!

Please don't shatter my Segal dreams and the fact that TV is staged!
Its one of the funniest programs on TV if only for how serious Segal is.

James pls don't be condescending - he has worked for 20 yrs as a cop - he goes out on the beat and has done for that time. it is a fact COP in America = Danger - and your critique would not stand up to detailed scrutiny IMHO. I simply said he has worked as a frontline cop (he ain't behind a desk F/E) and I said fairplay. behave yerself yer nana!

I simply said he has worked as a frontline cop (he ain't behind a desk F/E) and I said fairplay. behave yerself yer nana! Okay, am not being condescending, or at least I am not trying to. the facts however are different than were presented. The show says he was a front line cop and his bio says that...however if you do some digging...and I have.....He was a PR project that the former Sherrif of that county had. They were good friends and Segal was asked to suit up and do some training with his guys and then go to schools and give speaches to groups. The first time he actually started to go out on the street was just before the tv show started and that was with semi retired officers and those that would be his "team" of guys. The fact that he presents himself as a real Cop actually ticks off a few cops that I know. But what do you expect from the guy that got caught publicly saying he was a retired CIA assasin and agent for the FBI and Secret service...and all three governement bodies came back and said he was never a member or agent of those governement bodies. He came back with "well, they have to say that for security reasons" but the Secret service does not hide the employees information or have to keep them secret. Now, is he a great Aikido instructor....that is a YES! The rest of the fantasy however is strictly PR!

PR - is that Possibly Right? I have had certain experiences that have lead me to take the approach 'Don't judge a book by its cover' - especially if that cover is written by sales seeking journalists. the truth usually outs in the end.
I find it difficult - even in America for Segal to have made his Policing claims and not have real policemen and women publicly up in arms and taking legal action.
there is a huge scandal here at the moment because a person has 'outed' undercover cops that the government had denied where being used!

A fair point. But is it that far fetched to believe its a PR stunt?
But, look at from this point -. You dont say that you are in the CIA if your not. The American homeland security do not mess about yet nothing happened to him in that case.
From what I can tell American celebrity culture can forgive a person alot (Just like the British 'celebrities' )
Or
The start of the program gives a biography of how long Segal has been an deputy sheriff (many years). However when you see the PR shot of Segal being swore in you can tell its only a few years ago. So that's an obvious lie.
(Note: You can tell its a few years ago because segal 15years was thin. In this photo he is fat and grey)
OR
"Steven Seagal claims to hold certification by the California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) commission. However, according to a Los Angeles Times commentary critical of the claims, neither the California nor Louisiana POST organizations have records of Seagal's certification. But in the state of Louisiana, POST accreditation is not required for people holding certain positions in law enforcement if they are partnered with a POST-accredited officer."
Its good entertainment but thats all it is.

Segal not only said he was a CIA Agent for many years...but he also proclaimed himself a Buddhist Saint that had been reborn...anyone wanna explain that to his mother and father...the Jewish Dad and Italian Catholic mother!

wasn't aware that Buddhism is nation specific Kensei? I did not know that being Jewish was nationally specific as well...and I am pretty sure my wife would be shocked that being Italian Catholic was national as well....seeing as she is Canadian! I was mearly refering to his back ground and being ironic. If he had not been who he was...he never would have been told he was the reborn Buddhist monk or son of a monk or something like that. Point is that it is more of the silly cuircus that follows him around. he actually sued the FBI at one point...now if he was a CIA agent would he have to do this or would he simply make a call to silence the issue he had with them? Just asking? The point is that he seems a bit "off" in everything he does.. It all hollywood time with him. Does this make him a bad Aikidoka...No, from what I have seen and read he is actually very good.....Does Aikido make him a good person...no, he is as mixed up as the rest of us...but with fame came more "intense" issues.

I used to like his movies when he was making a statement about bad practices. Such as oil spills & toxic chemical dumping, or organized crime. However it seems he`s gone to cheap movies just to have his face in film. Yes he certainly is good at Aikido, however he seems to worship the spotlight more than anything else!!! Osu Paul B

there are a few clips of him in a gi teaching a karate class and you can certainly see it is his core system - i think he is awesome as am MMA fighter but was good but not special at Shiai which shows that Shiai is NOT an indicator of fighting ability it is a game. I know MANY karateka who were ok at shiai and awesome in real life - worked the door with them.

Lyoto Machida is a fighter that is always up for challenges, but lately he’s been on the losing end, dropping his last two fights in a row after starting off his career with 16 straight victories. While there was no question he simply got beat when facing Maurcio “Shogun” Rua the second time around, his last loss fell into the hands of the judges at UFC 123 in Detroit when he faced Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. The opinions were split after the fight with some scoring the fight for Jackson and others scoring in for Machida. The Brazilian’s manager, Ed Soares, says that scoring in MMA isn’t perfect, but everyone should realize that the sport is still so young that mistakes are bound to happen. He does admit, however, that a controversial loss is still a loss and right now his fighter’s record is reading two defeats in a row. “It is a bummer to see a loss. You’ve heard Dana White before, sometimes a bad decision effects a fighter’s legacy, effects a fighter’s pay. So many different things are effected by a controversial decision, but unfortunately, it didn’t work out in our favor this time,” Soares said. “I don’t know what needs to be done about the scoring and the judging. I think they maybe need to come up with a better system. People need to understand that our sport is young. This sport has been sanctioned now for about 10 years. “There’s gonna be adjustments that are gonna be made to try to perfect the scoring and make it better. We may see in our lifetime, maybe 20 years from now, they may say, ‘Man, off of today’s scoring, Lyoto would have definitely won that fight or such and such definitely would have won that fight.’ But it’s definitely a young sport and it’s constantly evolving. I think everybody is doing the best job they can to try and put these things in order.” Machida is moving on from the loss to Jackson and will soon head back into a full training camp to get ready for his next challenge, UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture. While the former UFC light heavyweight champion is excited about the bout, he hasn’t decided whether he’ll train in America or in Brazil for the bout. Either way, he’s ready for the challenge that lies ahead in Toronto in April. “I think it’s a great fight. It’s an honor to fight a guy like Randy Couture,” Soares told MMAWeekly Radio. “He’s a legend in this sport. Someone like Lyoto, he’s the kind of guy that wants to fight the best. He did feel he won that fight against Rampage, but that’s yesterday, now he’s got to focus on today. The next bout is Randy Couture.” Couture has teetered on the precipice of whether or not he will be retiring soon, but mentioned Machida by name as one of the fighters he wants to face before calling it a career. The former champion complied and now they two light heavyweights will meet in a featured bout on the UFC 129 main card on April 30.
I like Machida because he comes from Shotokan. I think Randy has just the style to beat him though, in spite of his age. Randy will put him on his back & ground & pound him to death IMHO.
Thanks, Tom

Randy has been more about boxing and tie ups, you need to get to Lyoto to tie him up and we have seen that he is not that easy to get to. Also Randy has Crap jitsu, his "Black belt" in BJJ is based on his wrestling abilitity and is a joke in the BJJ world. Fact is that Lyoto has better Jitsu than Randy and Randy may be able to tie him up if he grabs him but Lyoto will be hard to grab and if he is caught in the wrestlers clinch look for his Jitsu to earn him a submission.
Unlike Randy, Lyoto is not a one style fighter, we tend to covet him becuase he is 60 % Shotokan...but we forget how strong his Jitsu is!

I saw the Lyota Machida Rampage bout and I thought the decision was a joke and to be honest it does the UFC no good. With alll the money involved you can start to ask yourself questions about the UFC and it's refereeing ...

As some of you know, I write for a few MMA forums and magazines about the fights, training with and to avoid injuries and the like. Well, I watched the Recent Silva vs Belfort fight and saw one of the best examples of Mae Geri being used in a real fight situation. for those that missed it a breif recap.....Silva Booted Belfort in the face and KO'd him.....I mean KO"D HIS BUTT! Well I was all very impressed till Steven "oily" Segal went on record with one of the interviewers that he had invented this kick and had been working on it for 40 years. Now I know that this thread is about Machida...but he is Segals "student" as well.....MORE proof that this guy is a crack pott...He Invented the Mae Geri? ? Really, so for the past 32 years I have been doing a kick he invented......more important ly.........HOW OLD IS SEGAL THAT HE INVENTED THIS KICK? IN all seriousness, THis is a a farce and COFFEE CAME OUT MY NOSE AGAIN! I really have to watch what kind of crap I am reading while drinking some hot coffee.
