As most of you know Steve Hyland has asked for our help in fund raising, for research of a terrible disease that took his mother-in law from their family way to early. In his posting ` A Plea To Your Generosity` he has committed to dropping some weight in an effort to give us an idea on how we can help support this cause.
Well, I think it is most admirable of Steve to do this in his mom-in laws memory & in an effort to support him on this cause, I have also pledged to shed some unwanted weight, to the tune of 21 lbs. Steve has set a goal for may/01. That gives us a good three months to achieve our goal. For information on Steve`s progress please check out the `Generosity` post. What I hope to do here is share my journey in doing my part to shed the pounds, as Steve & I are making it a bit competative I hope this will be fun, although it is to raise funds for a serious cause.
My initial weigh in last sunday morning was 201 lbs, this is why I set my goal at 21 lbs of weight loss. It has been some time since I have seen 180lbs. Today, one week later I weighed in at 197 lbs, that is 4lbs in the right direction. I am happy with this result as this week was quite a challenge for me as my eldest daughter had come to visit & we had many social dinners. We had family dinners, the in-laws invited us over, we had others come over & everything was eat, eat eat. Oh well, I survived the temptation somewhat & didn`t pig-out to badly. Had to train hard though to burn some calories.
This comes to what I would like to share with you is the methods & equipment that I will be using on this journey of shaping up.
In my small workout room, I have a few pieces of exercise equipment that I will share with you on how I use them. I will post them individually in the `Equipment`column of this site. Mainly I will be using these machines: Total Gym; Gazelle ( glider ); Health Rider, Ab Lounge & Hurley Stretcher ( the rack ), also I use dumb bells & a wave master self supporting bag.
At one of our local schools they have an outdoor fitness area with a variety of exercise equipment that I will also be using. I stated using these last fall when I discovered them & I must say that I enjoyed using them.
I hope not to bore you with me writing about what I will be doing in the next few months to lose pounds & hopefully help motivate Steve to do the same. I will do my best to include pictures as I go.
Of course it goes without saying that my karate training will become more intense & I`m thinking that my club will grunting a bit as they help me go through this journey.
I thank Steve for allowing me to participate on with his fundraising for a good cause. I have pledged $1 cdn for every pound that we both loose. I hope that you will go to the `Generosity` post & make a pledge!!!
