This was my favourite Kata to watch Master Enoeda perform - I just love his rendition of it - hoever I could pleasently strangle whoever it was that filmed this rendition with limited space and those godawful curtains behind. Poetry in motion destroyed by poor planning! and as for the numpty narration - Samurai warrior on horseback my arse! Enjoy!

Loved the performance, not sold on the bunkai though.... Couldn't agree more Jim - but I have never yet seen a bunkai by any Shotokan JKA Masters that I liked. It is just something they are garbage at. Sad really - however, second generation such as Cattle, Hazard, Trimble and a few others and it is a very different story! Which is nice!

OMG, that was crazy good. I love the way he moved, very core connected! The man was a mystery. Trying to do what you see him doing is not easy...even if he makes it look easy.
I never watch the bunkai, tends to ruin the whole thing for me. But damn was that not one of the better Sochins I have ever seen.

James - I know you have a very long list of very senior Karateka that you have trained with but I am not sure if you ever trained with Enoeda Sensei on one of his regular visits to USA and Canada. So sorry if you already know this BUT film just does NOT do the man justice. In real life, up close, he was breathtaking. I remeber in one dojo we could literally feel the sprung wooden floor move. it didn't bounce (as in someone stamping on it) It literally vibrated as his (somehow) gripped the floor at the point of Kime. And when he Kime'd you would literally see his whole body instantly for the tiniest split second, lock down and his sweat would spray for yards. There are Many fine Karateka of his era but he really was something special. I have the original of Kim's painting of him three yards away as I type and jeez did she capture his essence see here: www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=151141114904318&set=t.1233977470&type=1&theater

Sadly, No, I did not train with Enoeda sensei, the two trips I could have taken and trained with him...Sadly I did not (first one I was in basic training and the second I was doing a internship and could not get away). Also, I did not realize that he was at the camp in the states until after the classes were over and to be frank...I would have blown off the internship if I knew he was going to be in Phili at the time. The man had a aura about him that just makes you shudder when you see him on video...I can only imagine training with him in person. I have trained with some great men, and some were the kind of people htat you simply can not put out of your mind easily when doing Karate...but he would have been one of the guys I would have loved to train with. and as for the rest of your post...thanks for rubbing it in ;D

LOL, I know. does not stop me from being jelous! Every Shotokan Karateka who never got to train under Enoeda Sensei (myself included !) is jealous of people who did ! are but Andy - YOU have had the glorious situation of having Frank Cope as your Clubs Senior Instructor = Jealous Jealous for us that only had the repeated honour of inviting him to our clubs whenever possible or travelling to your dojo to gain access to him. And also, Frank Being Frank I know he has given you opportunity to train with many fine Instructors that he has invited to teach for the Wirral Shotokan Clubs in fact yer a frickin lucky bugger so i think you have had more than your share of top training both within your group and elsewhere! which is nice
