Hey there, just thought I'd drop a few lines to show I'm around.
Trained in Shotokan for a few years way back when I was in my teens... then girls came along and ruined everything!
Just got back into it again after a *cough* 16 year *cough* break, but training in Muay Thai for a few years helped to keep something around at least!
Got my first grading coming up at the end of the month, I'll be "assessed" and then graded at whatever level the head-honcho deems appropriate. Can't complain at that!
Anyway, I'm rambling so I'll just say "hey"!

Welcome aboard Dave. Always great to have new members. So you trained when in your teens, then thanks to girls you took a 16 yr break. Hopefully the right girl turned into a great woman! Teens + 16 still makes you a young man with many years of activity still in front of you. Looking forward to hear about some of your experiences.. Osu Paul B

Well, after the 2.5 hour training & assessment I then finally had my grading. They had me up from the white belt kata right through purple belt kihon, kumite & kata, then on my jack jones! Made a couple of silly mistakes, mainly with the combinations, but managed to keep the techniques clean & strong. Went blank halfway through Bassai Dai, but he gave me a verbal nudge & I managed to recall the rest! (Not too bad, since I got told Tekki Shodan would be as far as I'd need!) Left me to last with the results, but was better than I'd hoped... 3rd kyu/brown!

Good for you Dave. No doubt, the reason that they added bassai dai was because you proved yourself to be above a 4th kyu level. After a 2 & 1/2 hr session you obviously made them proud to have you on board. Congrats. Paul B

Mistakes are inevitable"!
