I really enjoyed watching these guys. Excellent performances if they were 30 but at thier age superb and proff of the benefits of a lifetimes study. Also watch the second guy and try and spot the clearest example of a Headbutt in a Kata that you are likely to see! Great stuff IMHO! RESPECT!

Headbutt in Sisochin kata jus after the turn about halfway through. Great kata my 4th kyus are just starting to work on that for the next 2 years or so There are a few gems hidden away in this kata that don't appear until you get up close and personal.

Couldn't agree more Andrew and it applies to every kata if you know how to anylise it! I can't wait to be 69 and move like that again HAHA!

I now feel young at 62. It's great to see other old guys being active and still taking their karate as serious now as when in their youth. These guys are a great inspiration.

I hope many younger Karateka would also take inspiration from not only the guys in the clip but also from some of our members here who are still as enthusiastic and enquiring about their Karate now as 'Older Folk '(male and female) as they were as young 'whippersnappers' several decades ago! Respect!

I don't like to think or myself as "old", just "very experienced." There was a guy who started out with me who was "really old". We tested together through the ranks from white to mid-brown, when I left Philly for grad school and spent almost 5 years self training. When I was back at my old dojo for my shodan exam, he was testing for nidan. I could hear some of the punks my age who were testing from other dojos commenting how stiff and slow he was. (We will ignore for the moment what THAT behavior says about people who are taking a BB exam.) But I remembered what he was like when he started, and the distance he traveled to get to that was far greatly than for most of those testing who were my age. When I think back to that now, the really funny thing is that I bet that I am older now than that "really old guy" was at the time.

This reminds me of my early days of training. Our dojo had an older guy join. At the time I was perhaps 23 and he was maybe 50. (12 years younger than I am now). He was stiff and he could not get a deep stacnce or a decent kick even as he reach 3rd kyu. I left that dojo while he was still wearing a brown belt. Last year I ran into my old sensei and as we talked about the old days he told me that the old guy was still training at the dojo and is now in his 80's. His wife made him quit in his early 70's for fear that he would have a heart attack. After she passed away he returned to training. That old guy is a far better and smarter man than me.

Seasoned, elder statesman, executive or just plain 'old geezer', I hope I can still be doing this into my 80's. I turn 63 on 10/5. Got punched in the shoulder last week & it still hurts when I lift my arm. Sometimes I don't feel like I'm gonna make into my 80's. But those guys are motivational! Thanks, Tom
