Just as a point of interest how many of you out there that teach regularly conduct a class with your students in street clothes rather than their KarateGI?
when I say street clothes I do not mean t-shirts and Tracksuits etc. I mean normal trousers, Shoes (bring a variety to get the feel of different ones), Shirts (even a tie) Jumpers and an outdoor Overcoat and even a hat. For the Ladies a Skirt or dress.
Then do things such as Gohon, Ippon and Ju-ippon Kumite with finally some No illegal target, Total control of techniques Kumite to finish.
It is - for those whom have never done it - a very enlightening process and brings many Secondary Elements into the process that are just not present when in a Gi.
Keep the class as serious as normal and frequently stop and discuss things that arise.
I do recommend such classes as they later help with the experiential neccesity for visualisation processes. Good Luck. any question please ask.

I think this is a very good idea making it as real as possible and used to using your chosen art in your normal clothes As you would do if you had trouble in the real world.cos I dunno about you but I don't often walk down the street in my GI

I teach a self defense class once and a blue moon that is for the public and students. We train in what we wear to work, so yes ladies wear dresses and such.
Its an eye opener for sport Karate guys that think they are the best that God created when this old fart puts them down off their best lunge punch that normally scores points in a tourny and I throw them down and put my knee in their ches while twisting a joint in the arm (pick one ;D).
Its funny how sport Karate has so very little to do with actual fighting in the streets, but can be a huge asset if only trained and understood properly.
The whole street clothing training is fantastic.

Good idea, I sometimes get caught out when I get asked about the previous nights lesson when i'm at work, I tried to demonstrate a small combination in the rest area the other day and nearly ripped my trousers..... I also tend to buy more loose fit clothes these days - so long as they pass the "er-in-doors" fashion test.

Wouldn't work in New Zealand. Everybody wears singlets and shorts here Even the lassies THER'S ALWAYS ONE! For a change lets try and keep a thread on track yer dozy crazy Scots Nutter! Back to the thread - if you wear contact lenses to train - put yer glasses on for this special class. Any other suggestions?
