Hi all, i earned my JKA shodan via the KUGB in 1989, with Sensei K Enoeda. Not long after i took a (loud cough) "20 year break" but pleased to say i took my first training session last week, and its amazing to find the body remembers what the mind forgets. Cant believe i waited so long, might take a while to learn all the kata's again, but the terminology suprisingly came back to me! cant wait for the next session! My knees are hurting and i love it!Nice to be back!

Hello, and welcome!
Expect many questions regarding your training with Enoeda!

oh no, that sounds misleading! i only had the privilege of training with him once, and that was for 2 hours in crystal palace, shortly before he took my dan grading! Ive been out of the game so long i only found out last month that he sadly passed away! I've been trying to track down my old karate instructors, and then i discovered Sensie S Cattle had sadly passed away too, i had plenty of training sessions with him, he took me for most of my kyu gradings! Awful news!

Hi and welcome to the madhouse I also took a 20 year break before stating up again and am having great fun (well worth the effort). If your legs ache, good! time and practice will fix that If your knees hurt then you're doing it wrong (the world has moved on and so have training practices) and remember, much like the rest of you, your knees are 20 years older that they were the last time you did it (welcome to my world treat them kindly.

thanks for the advice Bob, to be honest im just slightly worried, they dont so much hurt as ache, and although i took my first session with the lower grades to ease myself into it, my knees were fine during training, it was the day after they ached and still do, im planning on training with the lower grades for 2 weeks, then up my game and mix it with the seniors! i was using deep, long stances, like i used to when i was younger, so maybe ill be a bit kinder on the knees this wednesday and mention it to my sensei. thouroughly enjoyed it though and cant wait for more! snappy new gi on the way me thinks.

Hello and Welcome Gaz(?) I took my 20 year break before I started...... Wish I had started in the 80's but it's a bit difficult doing Kata on a Submarine. I also suffer with a hurting knee, I used to run to compliment my training but on lead up to Shodan I was training 3/4 times a week, practising at home and running during my lunch break 3 times a week. I'm now taking it easy until knee is repaired, twisting during certain kicks is also another bad habit i've nearly cured myself of. Hope you enjoy this site, it has tons of good reading material, some good banter and plenty of advise if you ask. Most people put their names in their signature so we know who's who, where abouts are you?
