When I start giving lessons next month I was going to use our governing body's insurance but we've just seen the small print and it only covers one venue.... To cover more than one venue pay through the nose.... Does anyone get a good deal on Instructor insurance and can you recommend a company? At the moment the club has 3 venues and will have 2 more soon.

First bit of information really before I know if I'm getting a good (or bad) deal What do you consider "paying through the nose"?

The association we use are members of EKA, they provide instructors insurance of £55 per year which seems like a good deal but my chief instructor has checked the small print and it would seem that this is aimed at one location/venue. To add multiple venues then the price nearly triples....
As we use community centres, sports halls and village halls - add to this 2 Shodans wanting to start their own lessons within the area - and we will soon have lots of locations on most nights.
I've been searching online and basic instructor insurance, it starts from about £60 which still seems reasonable, the EKA has £5m + £1m covers and looks like a good cover.
As I start out then I will have mostly beginners and they won't be doing full on free style for a while.... these days it seems important to cover yourself against someone hurting themselves whilst under your instruction, a certain amount of cover for the venue and any equipment used.

Ok, I'll need to check the small print on mine also now but, as far as I'm currently aware it's me that's covered rather than the location. I pay £71 at present for £2m cover. There were no questions regarding location on the proposal and no mention of it in the general exclusions in my documentation.

I had a dojo affiliated to the UKTKF during 1997 to 1999 and my insurance via Perkins Slade covered me for indemnity for instructors and club liability.
Best Regards Allan

On my instructors cert they have named the venue which has brought about the worry, we first need to speak with them to clarify the situation.

Had it checked and they want an additional £5 per extra venue, as we cover 4 locations that would be £70, or they have a generic one for nearly double that.
I don't understand why they charge more per locations as surely the main cover is against me? What would be the difference in me teaching 5 times a week in one Dojo or 5 Dojo's?

Still works out about the same as mine so, unless you are planning on moving around even more, is it worth changing?
