It is with immense pleasure that i let all of the members here know that, after much consultation within our karate group, a decision has been made in recognition of her spirit, courage and fortitude to award Kim Watt (Missmykarate) the rank of Honoury Shodan. for those of you who do not know - Kim was a fine karateka who sadly fell foul of cancer and has for several years endured major Surgery, Chemotherapy and ongoing treatment to battle and defeat this terrible foe. Yet despite this she has remained active and supportive in an administrative role - even to the extent of attending courses in a wheelchair to support her husband George (Dod) and her Son Liam. She never complains and if anything we have to be strict with her to ensure she does not do too much. In addition she has shown to be an unbelievably talented artist who has painted some of the most wonderful karate paintings ever to be seen. She is quite literally inspirational and had she not had to battle the big C for several years she would have undoubtedly achieved her Dan rank sometime ago. therefore: WELL DONE KIM WATT SHODAN

I cannot tell you all how honoured, emotional, and humbled I feel to have been awarded this, thank you. I love to take as much interest in Shotokan as I ever have, and I am in debted to you all for your kind wishes and congratulations, which have picked me up much more than many of the medical treatments I have endured over the years. I have trained for many years, and would still train as much as possible if I physically could. Fujicolt (Steve Hyland) is easily as brave (actually more so) as me, to instruct in the pain he has to endure daily. I refuse to ever feel sorry for myself, so expect no one else to pity me either. Although it is true, and I am currently in a wheelchair, I feel I am lucky as I am still living, I still have eyes with which to see and watch with, and a thinking brain to absorb all the information as much as any other physically able karateka, and a voice with which to comment or query on any techniques as much as anyone else (just ask fujicolt and dodwatt). This award has given me a special feeling in my heart that I cannot explain, and sense of acheivement I never thought I would obtain again, and I have never felt so proud in my life. To everybody so far who has sent a kind message of praise to me, I thank you with all my heart, and will continue to paint karate masters, old and new, much appreciated, Kim www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=23534&id=100000252922117

Kim
You earned it girl and don't be daft comparing my hip trauma with what you have been through is like comparing a cut on yer finger to having your arm ripped off.
and folks you can see how she has continued her karate - those paintings look great on face book but they are nowhere near as awesome as when you see them for real - truly beautiful

We rarely see where the real combat takes place, not on the streets or in the bars but behind the closed doors of families across the world. these combatants seldom have their bravery recognised or acknowledged and it is right and proper that those who know and love them mark their battles and victories. I have yet to meet Kim but she appears to be a wonderfully talented lady, congratulations and best regards to her and her family

Hi Jim Having met you and your lovely lady I can assure you that you would find George and Kim to be 'Your kind of people'. Thank you for acknowledging our groups decision (to recognise and honour Kim's courage and efforts) in such an eloquent way. I shall not lie - I had a little tear when I read her response. she is an extraordinary lady who deserves to feel lifted and admired and apart from my wife just about the only other women that i am terrified of since my old mum passed away

Congratulations Kim & good on Steve for awarding a true fighter!! I myself had the good fortune of awarding an honorary shodan & I`m sure that Steve would agree that this rank is not to be taken lightly. A survivor such as yourself exhibits a fighting spirit that some of us will never have. osu Paul B

I would like to congratulate my wife on her being awarded this grade, to me she is the bravest person I have ever known, she's strong in will and mind and never complains. Well done Kim, you deserve it, Sensei Osu

well done kim, having trained with kim many years ago, i can tell you you will not come across a more dedicated and hard working woman, not only did she train hard but fought hard, i can tell you that having had a few hits from kim, she can hit as hard as most men, so her latest and biggest fight will be no problem to a real fighter , again well done kim on you're dan grade. den
