Hi everyone! not been on for a while, just been reading various posts/reply's for the last hour, some very interesting/thought provoking points. Loving some of the very diplomatic disagreements, or say... polite well mannered arguing that goes on, Great Stuff!!! but i just want to lower the tone for a min and discuss politics (Sorry) i gained shodan via KUGB in 1989, which was then at that time, (correct me if im wrong, ...and i usually am!) a division of the JKA ran by Enoeda Sensei, my shodan certificate is a JKA one signed by the great man himself, although i was always a KUGB member. After many years away from training i have started up again, and have joined up with KUGB again, but, as my cert is JKA would i be able to join them also and train with them simultaneously? Basically, Is it possible to belong and train with 2 Org's at the same time? (i purposely bought a blank gi and my new belt just has shotokan embroidered on so i could train in stealth mode if need be) Also, im presuming that KUGB are no longer affilliated with JKA but would still train to a similar syllabus??? would that be correct??? (just though id get a more open response here than at my club)

In an ideal world you should be able to train with who you like and as many clubs/orgs as needed.
I am with a club who is part of the AMA and I have been along to a KUGB club and trained with them, so long as I had insurance they weren't bothered. Not sure how it would have gone if I had asked to grade with them though?
Having seen a few KUGB syllabus on various websites then it seems a little short, hopefully they add more on the day as some of our early KYU grading combinations are a lot more demading than the KUGB's.

I doubt you will be allowed to hold a dual membership given that i am aware that the JKA UK have turned away even direct students of Enoeda Sensei as they were no longer under the JKA Directly - but having said that they do now run 'OPEN' Courses. So yer never know and given that trad Karate are desperate for members you may be OK
The KUGB SYllabus may be similar to the JKA's for gradings but technically, structurally, biomechanically they are quite different - an argument that erupted several decades ago - go follow the track of articles, letters etc kicked off by Dave Hooper's Article in SKM: The Way versus the Culdesac
Simple examination via You Tube etc will show the differences for yourself if you understand what to look for.
Hope this helps
