Well another busy class tonight with 20 students turning up for what they thought was a normal class. Sensei Bob had us all working on combinations and stances pushing the class hard and making sure we corrected our mistakes. Then we had the arrival of Sensei Haley who brought with her some new toys for the class to use and we split the class. The junior aged students were taken to the small dojo and worked on Heian Shodan and some sambon combinations. This weeks inovative combination training used resistance bands that strap to your ankles. We started with kiba dachi stances going up and down the hall, this was done 9 times as Sensei Barry couldnt count, then we had 8 sets of box jumps into kiba dachi stance. This was followed by some kokutsu dachi then some Heian Shodan and Junro Shodan. We then removed the ankle straps and did Heian Shodan again to feel the difference. The whole class came together and finished off with 400 squats for good measure. A hard contructive class was had by us all. For the second class our senior grades were going through Kumite drills and speed work as we juniors hobbled home.

Resistance training is good, it's amazing how much more force, speed and power goes into it afterwards.

I like working with them Mal we also do a bit of work with resistance bands and dumb bells for punching and ankle weights for kicking and kata. We are also doing more and more combination conditioning training to suppliment our Karate drills and Kata's. I wonder does any other clubs use these type of equiptment or different styles of training.
