Hi Lyall
Welcome to the forum. Great blogspot, first came across it when all the s**t hit the fan so to speak over Andre. Looking forward to reading your postings and how Shotokan is progressing in NZ.
Best Regards Allan

Great to see that in Andre's blog dated Monday 25th he re-affirms what I said in a previous posting, Kihon is THE BENCHMARK.
Best Regards Allan

Now I know what you mean about benchmark because at first I didnt get it I found the article and your commenting. Thanks for that it is very true. Andres karate is very like Mr.Asais who taught him a lot and old JKA mine a littlemore follows Mr.Yahara who was our 2nd-in-charge until 12years back. I have many old injuries but continue to train hard. Mr.Yahara is also a very nice person outside the dojo. I think a combination of Mr.Yaharas karate, Mr.Abes karate & Mr.Asai's karate or other JKA instructors with own karate is best kihon.

You are challenging Andre here, he is not challenging you. So if you want to challenge him, get the balls and go to him. He would love that. He is an interesting character and trains rather hard. Respect to you but you talk about "challenges from miles and miles away". Get some balls if you are unhappy with your life. Mr. James, I hope to see some of your kata and kumite online, and hope it impresses me. Andre's karate is absolutely mindblowing and just remember he has been a bodygaurd for some very high profile people including US rock stars whom have visited my dojo. He is in constant demand all over the world. Every federation asks him, so I can see why you feel inferior and want to boost yourself. The best way is to show your karate. I understand your feeling about Andre, but get over it. He is a superstar and you are a nobody. Lyall Stone One of the points raised on this topic was people being rude, it was not about the quality of people's Karate or who they have trained with, yet you have joined us just to be rude as well. The big names and/or senior Karate-ka should be people we can look up to and learn from, not witness them performing childish name calling.

Hi Mal
Think things have escalated here beyond redemption??
I thought the role of the "moderator" was to moderate and not to allow doors to be opened to fan the flames so to speak. Worked on other postings did it not? The original topic was actually the video which I later pointed out was fine for the duration of the running time after some critism of it. Rudeness and quality of karate was introduced simply because someone? did not like Andre, his forthrightness and his "Japanese" lineage so to speak.
I thought as responsible adults on this forum we had advanced past the "my dad's bigger than your dad" scenario we all experienced at school irrespective of where we were educated.
Best Regards Allan

Maybe my comments were aimed at not just Lyall and Andre?

I agree with Allan and maybe this topic should be closed.
I have been biting my tongue here not to get involved as I personally know Andre. But based soley on the interview as was the original topic, I also don't think he said anything bad, he just has strong opinions which he believes to be true (and many people agree with), and can afford to say them because of the way he has dedicated his life to karate.
I don't think the comments on his blog really reflect Andre's true character, and are just an inflamed reaction to others flaming him. If you are too far away for him to come and rip you a new one, or politely disagree with you he has to release his stress somehow.
What I suggest to those upset, is having Andre over for a course to see him first hand put his money where his mouth is which he can easily do, and then getting to see that he is a top bloke really, in person (rather than on screen ), and if you have any disagreements to discuss it with him in person, and have him see your side as well.
Llyal, I have heard a lot of good things about you from Andre, and it is good of you to try and defend him but your anger affected your tone I'm afraid, further fanning the flames. But hopefully Allan's wise comments will help dampen them.

I like Andre, and he and I hated each other when we first met. I do not like net fighting anymore, because that is not who I really am. Andre is a great guy with a deep passion. Maybe some of the things he has said in the past has not been so great. Yet, I can tell you for sure, some of you karate gods here in Japan are not who they seem to be when on courses. Andre is the real deal. I am sure he is great to sit down and have a beer or 10 with. As for training with the guy, just look at him on video. Any question?? I would go.

I often forget myself as a Mod here....However, I have to say that my reactions, as harsh as I admit they are, is purely in response to the Charactor he SHOWS on his blog, which is sad because he really does have a lot of great stuff on his Blog.
No one is saying he is not a great technical Karate player, he is...however his personal attacks on others make it hard for me to respect him as a person...and while I am a small fish in a big sea of famous Karate people...I really dont care.
I have never said I would travel and challenge others to fights, Hell if I did that for a living then Steve and I would have met a hell of a lot sooner! I am a father of a special needs kid with a life and work and a home to pay for..not some Karate business guy or thug that travels for pleasure to challenge others. I am a person however that if challenged would enjoy it...so if anyone had come here to the middle of Canada, well my Dojo door is open.
I would much rather chat with others in a respectful way and hash things out. I have my own web site for our club and a blog that I use to communicate with the students in my org. I would NEVER think of defaming someone and posting questionable things no matter how upset I get...Hell Steve has had me twisted about a few times...but he is a really a great person, with a horrible welsh temper (I am guilty of this as well).
Andre has issues with Steve, but as far as I know they have never met. And Andre really should rethink how he deals with others no liking the Personal PM's that he sends.
For me, if Llyle wants to see my Kata or Kihon, well I live in Canada, fly out or hit me up and I will even host you at our club. I am fairly easy going and love kumite and as Steve will attest, only come across as an Ass from time to time.
Now, Steve and the owner of the forum being gone for a bit, I guess I am the sherif in town, even if I am almost as busy...so what do we say we let this die! The OSS was created for respectful exchanges and to use our collective knowledge to grow....so back to that okay gang...or I may have to smash a few threads going forwards.

I agree. Let it drop, neither Andre` or Steve needs anyone else to defend them, they are big boys.
